    1. Re: [TNSUMNER] John Wesley Brown
    2. Linda Chesser
    3. To the Carter Family: Although John Wesley Brown's parents were Robert Sidney Brown and Sarah Elizabeth Anglea, in the Sumner Co. TN Aug, 15, 1860 Census, Robert is listed as Robert L. Brown. (S and L looked similar in early script.) "Anglea" with a "hard g as in guh" is often "Angel" with a "soft g as in juh" in the early records. R. S. Brown and Sarah E. (Anglea), daughter of Walter W. and Mary "Polly" (Robertson) Anglea, are listed with three children: Mary, age 4 (Mary Elizabeth Brown b. 1855 d. 1873); Geo, age 3,(George Washington Brown b. 1856 d. 1940) and John, age 2 (John Wesley Brown b. 1857 d. 1938 who is a month from his third birthday.) Additional children who followed John Wesley Brown were Robert Jefferson Brown b.1860 and Sidney Morgan Brown in 1862. Their mother, Sarah Elizabeth (Anglea) Brown, was b. 27 Aug 1838 in Sumner Co. and married 25 Sep 1854 Westmoreland, Sumner Co. TN. She died 27 Sep 1910 in Plano, Texas. Robert Sidney Brown was the grandson of Daniel Dance Brown and Lydia Keziah Grant and many researchers have worked in identifying him. Dance Brown arrived in Sumner Co, TN from Virginia about 1800, and as far as I know, is not closely related to the much larger Leonard and Sarah (Kimbrough) Brown couple and their descendants group in and from Sumner Co. TN. ( I am the 5th Gt. granddaughter of Leonard and Sarah Brown. and we have Danene Vincent to thank for her work on the Browns.) They were married in Orange Co. NC abt. 1762, and moved to Caswell Co. NC where their 10 children were probably born bet. 1763 and 1776 and where Sarah Kimbrough Brown died. Leonard Brown arrived in Sumner Co. TN with most of his children as young adults about 1802. According to Ancestry.com, your Robert Sidney Brown was born November 1838, the son of John and Elizabeth (McClary) Brown. John, born 1804 Russell, VA d. 1838 Allen Co. KY, and Elizabeth (McClary) were married 07 Jan 1824 in Allen Co. KY. John Wesley Brown, your line, married Addie Lee Dye b. 23 Jun 1866 Plano, TX d. 5 Jan 1930 Plano, TX. Their children were: Clara Brown, Roxie Brown, and May Belle Brown b. 30 Jun 1893, Plano, TX who married William Lee Carter b.5 Jun 1891 Plano, TX d. 17 Jun 1948 Dallas, TX. William Lee and May Belle (Brown) Carter had two children: Living Carter b. 30 Jun 1920 Plano, TX; and John Milton Carter b. 28 Mar 1924 who married Marjorie Chamberlin. John Milton and Marjorie C. Carter had 3 Living Carters, one of which was a female who m. Voss and have two living Voss children. Note: Your various family lines are on Ancestry.com in the One World Tree which must be subscribed to and is well worth it. This was the source for most of what's above. Whoever has posted our Leonard and Sarah Kimbrough Brown lines, which is mostly the work of Danene Vincent and early researchers of the original Brown book which I checked about 30 years ago in the Sumner Archives in Gallatin, they are my sources along with my own tracing and family work. Hope this helps, but check all of the above. It may not be correct or complete. 1. Pictures of Mary E. Byrn Vaughan and Susan Wilson Bentle
    2. sandym717
    3. Hello, I have received 2 large portraits of Mary Elizabeth Byrn Wilson Vaughan and her daughter by her 1st marriage, Susan Wilson Bentle. They are both very old in the portraits and I don't know which one is which. I am curious if there is anyone that might have a picture of either of them so I could figure this out. They are much too large to even try to copy. They belonged to my gr aunt and she is gone and I have "inherited" them and would love to know which one is whom. Mary Elizabeth Byrn was first married to S. Thomas Wilson and then to William H. Vaughan. Mary and S. Thomas had a daughter named Susan A. Wilson that married Elmer Bentle. Thanks for any help or suggestions, Sandy Simmons Mince

    1. McGlothlin
    2. Could anyone who is researching the McGlothlins of Sumner County, tell me if they are familiar with a Daniel McGlothlin? My line is from the Joseph, Sr, Joseph, Jr., Isaac and Elvis (who moved to Warrick County, Indiana abt 1863-65) In researching Warrick County, there is also a Daniel McGlothlin who settled there. Could this be a cousin who migrated with Elvis and his siblings? Or was Daniel a brother? Does anyone know? Thanks. Also does anyone know where either or both of the Joseph McGlothlins are buried. A "Billy" has been kind enough to locate a Joseph or two in the Old Halltown and Maple Hill but these are not the Joseph, Sr and Joseph Jr. that I am looking for. I have Joseph Sr's death date as 20 May 1839 and Joseph Jr abt. 1873. Does anyone know where these two are buried? Thanks again. Sandra
