I saw the census where it shows GFathL. This John would be the correct age for Mary Hughes brother, not her father....you are probably correct. JOhn Hughes is from her mothers side, she was a Hughes. So Louisa is his granddaughter. He is listed on the 1880 census as GrfatherL in the household of Andrew Ventress and wife Louisa E. I had always had Mary Hughes Vaughans father listed as Henry Hughes, either I have the wrong father or his name is John Henry Hughes. I will keep digging for an answer and someday I will find it. J. Ventress to Eliza Vaughan in Sumner County. Also, on the 1850 census Eliza Vaughan is listed as a child of James and Mary Vaughan age 15. On the 1880 I find Andrew Vaughan and wife Louisa E.(this could be Eliza) with John Hughes living in the household. It appears to me that John is living in the household of his niece, the daughter of James and Mary Vaughan. Nell Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Sandy, Under Estate Records I found this Hughes, John year 1880 #2783. FYI Diane Payne In a message dated 03/25/2007 7:50:09 AM Pacific Standard Time, sandym717@sbcglobal.net writes: In the 1880 census for Sumner Co., dist. 9 is listed a John Hughes age 90 b.- Va. He is listed in the household of Andrew D. Ventress and Louisa E. Vaughan-Ventress, he is listed as GfatherL. Which would be Louisas grandfather. I had previously believed her grandfather was a Henry Hughes??? Does anyone have any info on this John Hughes, I would be so interested... The first reference I can find is his marriage to Elizabeth Goodall in Sumner Co in 1840. I have found census records for 1850-1870. In some records he says he was born in KY and some he says TN. Apparently he died abt 1883 because I have found Co Clerk records describing Elizabeth's dower land. Everything before 1840 is a blank. Is anyone familiar with William Gibson and his ancestors? I would really appreciate any leads. Thanks, Carla Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Carla, I fowarded your Gibson message on to our group so hopefully you might get a response. However you might best try the Gibson Ancestors site below, its free to subscribe and has more information on them than anywhere else on the web. Some of the Bigbees (and spelling variants) of Sumner and Robertson Counties in TN are also Calvert descendants - via Josephine Bigbee who married a ggrandson (the number of "g's"...off 'top of my head') of Leonard Calvert, first Governor of Maryland.
