Hi list, I'am looking for any information on a William Mains who shows up on Sumner County land records as.............. Earliest Tennessee Land Records: Claimant: Mains, William---File #761---Assignee: Burgess, William---County: Sumner--Acres: 274---Grant: 2174---Grant Date: 20 May 1793---Entry: 3209---Entry Date: 19 Dec 1792--Book: 81---Page:166---Location by Stream Name: On E. Branch of Middle Fork of Goose Creek---Military: Yes. Compare above entry number and amount of acres for a NC Revolutionary Grant----------- Revolutionary War Bounty Land Grants----------- Mains, William. N. C. Private. 17 Dec. 1785. 274 acres No.: 3209. To whom granted and rank: William Mains, Pri. No. acres: 274 Service in months: 36 [No pension found] I suspect this may be the William Means who later settled in Blount County, shown on 1800-1801 Tax & Jury lists, showing he was a land owner before 1800. This William Means was from Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina, and had removed to Tennessee sometime after the 1790 census. Would like to prove they are the same persons. Any help or ideas are very appreciated. Cheryl --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check outnew cars at Yahoo! Autos.

This was all the further I could go in Sumner, TN for marriages that were transcribed online. As far as I can tell, Goldie was 15 yrs old in 1920, and still living at home, so if they still allowed minors to marry this young, it would be after this timeframe. Do you have other siblings for the George that you mentioned? I would be glad to share any info I have. The bondsman for Lewis Wesley Meador and Lucinda Cowdens' marriage on 9 February 1837, in Sumner County, TN was William C. Simpson. I wish I could help you with your William Meadows, but I don't know have any information about him and I don't know of any connection between him and Lewis Wesley Meador.
