According to the Bicentennial History of Lee Co., VA 1792-1992, page 275, Robert W Gregory was a musician with P T Barnum's show and while performing in Virginia he met and married Eliza Denton and settled near Abingdon in Denton's Valley. I have been trying to find out who Eliza's parents were. I have seen several family trees that list her as the daughter of Nancy Marks and James Denton Jr., son of James Denton and Deborah Gerow.
