Hill Jr., 83, died Friday (March 25, 2005) in Vidalia, Ga., following a brief illness. Mr. Hill was born on Feb. 11, 1922 in Dothan, Ala., and was one of three siblings born to the late Roy and Evelyn Hill. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Sue Hill, on April 15, 2002. Mr. Hill attended Emory University and Auburn University, graduating from Auburn in 1944 with a B.S. degree in chemistry. He then moved to Kingsport in 1944 and began working for Eastman Kodak. He continued to work for Eastman Kodak and Eastman Chemical Products, Inc. for over 41 years, retiring in 1985 as a supervising editor in the Advertising Department. Mr. Hill was a member of the First Broad Street United Methodist Church since 1946. He was also a member of the American Chemical Society and Society of Plastics Engineers, as well as the Society of Technical Writers, Society of Technical Publishers and the Society of Technical Communications. Past memberships in local community organizations included Lions Club, Elks and Moose Lodge. Mr. Hill became a radio amateur (W4PID) in 1949 and was a life member of Bays Mountain Radio Club and the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation and a member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association. He played trumpet with the Kingsport Symphony Orchestra, the Kingsport Community Band, and the Has Beens, and assisted with numerous charitable organizations around the Kingsport area. Hill Survivors include his sons, William and wife Terry Hill, of Knoxville, Howard and wife Barbara, of Vidalia, Ga.; and two granddaughters, Susan and Sarah Hill, both of Vidalia, Ga. In addition, he is survived by a sister, Connie and her husband Lamar Miller of Dothan, Ala.; and a brother, Billy and his wife Yvonne Hill of Marianna, Fla. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at East Lawn Funeral Home. Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home with interment following. In lieu of flowers, please make donations payable to Broad Street United Methodist Church music fund.
