Looking for any info on Rhoda, especially the name of her husband. 1850 Census Smyth County, VA-- she is with her parents David and Sarah Lawson. The Lawson family is living with the Daniel and Ann South family. 1860 Census Sullivan County, TN-- she is listed as Rhoda A. South with sons William and James. She is living with the Daniel and Ann South family. Her father David Lawson and his children are also living with Daniel South. Sarah Lawson her mother is not listed and must have died between 1850 and 1860. It may be that Sarah is related to Daniel South.

Joyce, Your info you provided in regards to the two Glover brothers is interesrting and informative. I have just started the research of the Glover family due to the possible fact that a James D Millhorn md a Glover. But not sure. I am narrowing the possibility to a Mary "Glover" ? or Mary A "Renow"? living in the HH of James and Rebecca Glover in 1850 and 1860. Trying to find out if this Mary is a "Glover" or a "Renow". Were there any other families around with the surname of "Renow" or similar spelling? Thanks JW Garrett
Since we are on the subject of Glovers of Sullivan Co., I thought I would bring this up. I had been told that all the Glovers of Sullivan Co. were descended from Richard Glover, Rev. War veteran and one of the Glover brothers who were born in Maryland, lived in Virginia, then spread out over the Southeast (Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee-Richard). My husband is descended from 2 different Sullivan Co. Glovers. His paternal line is John R. Glover, b. abt 1790 and his grandmother's line is Alfred Glover, b. 1804. Given that these two Glovers lived in the same area (in one census 2 households away) I had assumed that they did indeed come from the same family and were both probably sons of Richard Glover, even though my husband's aunt kept saying that there were 2 bunches of Glovers there and that her mother and father were NOT related before they married. Anyway, my husband recently participated in the Glover DNA test and it turns out that he, as a descendant of John R. Glover, is NOT genetically related to descendants of the other Maryland Glover brothers. So that presents some questions...is Richard Glover of Sullivan Co. NOT a brother to the other Maryland born brothers as previously assumed? Were there really 2 early Glover families in the same area of Sullivan Co. as my husband's aunt claims who were not related and Alfred is descended from Richard, but John R. is not? OR was there a frisky milkman somewhere in my husband's ancestry who wasn't a Glover at all?? What would help to solve this would be other Sullivan Co. Glovers who are willing to do DNA testing. If anyone out is male and still has the Glover surname who is descended from a Sullivan Co. Glover, please contact me for information on doing the DNA test. The more we get will help to shine more light on this increasingly confusing problem.
Anyone have available the 1850 Sullivan Co census? I am interested in the HH info of a John Milhorn and wife Sarah in Div One, and of James Glover and wife, Rebecca in 1st Div. Thanks JW Garrett
I, too, have been researching one of the James Glovers living in Sullivan County, born about 1818-1822. First of all, there were two. One was James Glover who married Elizabeth Berry and had a large group of children; the second James Glover married Rebecca. I don't think that this James Glover and Rebecca had children of their own. In 1850 census, "a" Mary, age 2, was living in the household. By 1860, Mary was now 11, and listed as Mary Runow, and his mother, Catherine was living with him. By 1870, they had a Susan Smith living in the household, listed as a niece. The James Glover who married Rebecca was the son of James Glover and his wife, Katie Sams. You will see Catherine living with husband James in 1850, Sullivan County, Household #981, he was age 67, she 65. This older couple were the parents of Martha "Patsy" Glover who married John T. Lyons. I have a copy of the death certificate for Martha "Patsy" Glover Lyons listing her parents as James Glover and Katie Sams. I would be more than willing to share any info that I have and would certainly like to exchange any info that you might have. I'm looking for anyone who may know about a William Offield (unsure of birth year but probably mid 1800s) who married Susan Rogers (b. 1867) in Sullivan County, TN 1883. Their marriage is recorded in county marriage records. Susan was apparently widowed by 1900 and I think remarried to a WRIGHT (and widowed again). Based on census records of 1900 (children with grandparents, etc.,) it looks like she was the mother of four children of which I think I can name three -- Mary Offield (b. 1886); James Offield (b. 1880s) and John H. Offield (b. 1880s). John Offield was in Sullivan County (Holston Valley area) in 1910-1930 census. In fact, his mother was living with him in 1900 with him named as a twelve year old "head of household" with Susan Wright listed as his mother. I am unsure what happened to Mary and James appears to be in Washington County, VA (Saltville area) by early 1920 (appears there in the census) at least I think it's the same James. Does anyone know this family ? Gary
