The Oak Hill cemetery listed on the Sullivan County genweb site is not complete. Is there anyone living close or going to Oak Hill who could possibly send me the names of the ELKINS buried there, along with dates? Thank you very much. I do have her obituary though. It lists 3 brothers: T.M. Smith of Piney Flats, W. R. Smith of Blountville, C.E. Smith of Piney Flats White Pine and two sisters: Mrs. Atline Rhea of Piney Flats and Mrs. Edd Jones of Blountville. Susie Carroll was the indian. How much indian I don't know. Her mother Rachael Smith gave birth to her 2 years before she married Thomas Carroll..who was 56 years her senior. He was married when Susie was born..so I don't know if he is really her father. I can't imagine a 25 year old girl having an affair with a married 81 year old man! Anyway, Susie Carroll (who married Samuel Cross) was my father in law's grandmother. He remembers her as having very white hair that was long and braided. She looked very indian.
Could any subscribers inform me if any early (pre-1830) Church Records for Sullivan Co., TN been published? Your response is appreciated. C. Ward CMW12635@aol.com
