Anyone on this list family names CONANT or AKARD? Please email me if you are... Sharon Moore [email protected]
Hi Fred, Yes I guess that Offield can be spelled in many other ways. Example Offill, Awfiel. I think the qualifications for being a census taker or marriage clerk was that you had to be able to spell a name at least 10 different ways. <vbg> I do think the lady's name was Susan South or at least that is what is sticking in my mind. Thanks for checking for me. Kahty McKown

Please write. Thank you. > The Ornduff researcher that you conversed with was not me. I can personally verify the following Ornduff family line to myself. I have data from Christina Sharp and Chris Knoble that ties into my line that takes the Ornduff family back to 1560, see below my line. Mordecai Ornduff and Frances Nonamaker Joseph S. Ornduff and Susannah Eveline Moore Nathan T. Moore and Macaler Jennie Ornduff Robert Edward South and Ollie Virginia Moore Robert Edward South Jr. and Mable Virginia Thomas Fredrick Thomas South - Me b. 30 October 1941. 1. HENNE ZU1 OHRNDORF was born Abt. 1560 in Hof Ohrndorf, Freudenberg, Nassau-Siegen, and died June 12, 1616 in Hof Ohrndorf, Freudenberg, Nassau-Siegen. He married (1) GELA UNKNOWN. She died February 19, 1639/40 in Hof Ohrndorf, Freudenberg, Nassau-Siegen. He married (2) CATHERINA UNKNOWN Abt. 1584 in Freudenberg, Nassau-Siegen. She died Bef. 1612 in Hof Ohrndorf, Freudenberg, Nassau-Siegen. Notes for HENNE ZU OHRNDORF: [Orndorffchristina.FTW] Henne zu OHRNDORF is possibly the son of Simon zu Ohrndorf , who was named in a 1577 tax list for the same area as Hen ne zu Ohrndorf resided. [Following are excerpts extracted from the book, "An Orndorff Family" by Roy Orndorff.] Henne zu Ohrndorf was listed in a 1594 tax list as the "Hofman" at Ohrndorf, indicating that he had inherited title and tenancy of the farm by that time. His place of residence seems to have been indicated variously as Büschen and Hof Ohrndorf, these being different designations, in descending order of size, for the same locality. The source of this tax record information is given as the Hauptstaatsarchiv, Wiesbaden, Abt, 171 T 27. 38. The records of the Freudenberg Parish (Gemeinde) of the Evang elical-Reformed Church, the source for the baptisms, marriages and burials of the earliest generations. (The records begin in 1612, so any further research before that was curtailed.) (Research):Daniel Bly is a historian and a descendent of the Orndorff's, he helped Roy Orndorff trace the Ohrndorff' s in Germany as he can read the old German writing and he has done considerable research with the micro filmed church records. Dan Bly has wrote and published his own book , "From the Rhine to The Shenandoah" in 1993. In this book he has included a chapter for the Orndorff's, unfortunately I did not receive a copy as Dan was fresh out of copies. Never the less, he has furnished much of my data for the early Ohrndorff's, and my own research include s those that are not in Dan's file. According to Dan Bly, the area where the Orndorff' s originated was in the old principality of Nassau, one of the many independent German states before the 19th century. There was no "Germany" in those times. Therefore I have excluded the word Germany from the places of birth and deaths, and have used Nassau-Siegen as the area , hoping to confuse no one who are not familiar with the history. After 1815 this area became part of the German state of Prussia and was no longer independent Nassau. In 1871 all German states were unified into the German Empire, with the Prussian King becoming the emperor of all Germany. After World I the local German states were reorganized and the area of Freudenberg and Siegen became part of the present day state of Nordrhein-Westfalen (North-Rhine - Westphalia). I have put together this family legacy of the Ohrndorff/Orndorff/Ornduff/Orendorf and Orndoff, all of the same origins , from many sources. I cannot attest to the veracity of all the data that I have entered, but have documented a good portion of the family histories. My sources for much of my work came from wills, deeds, census, marriage records , death certificates, cemetery inscriptions, passenger lists, court records, old family letters and many other records. Those that have contributed their own line, helping to fill in the blank spaces, goes first to Chris Knoble. He has had the most difficult ancestry to conquer, as he descends from Ludwig Ernst Ohrndorff, anglicized to Lewis Ornduff. There appears to be no other researcher of that line, and records were hard to find. After several years of intensive research, we think that we have finally came to a conclusion as to Chris' ancestry. Chris Knoble has shared many records with me and I thank him for that. Other researchers that have contributed to the data base has been Hugh Ornduff, his line being that of Jesse Orndorff, son of John and Hannah (McIlwee ) Orndorff. Michael Yourshaw contributed info for his grandfather Hugh Calvin Orndorff. Kathleen Rizor contributed her data for Margaret Ann Orndorff who married Jacob Saum. And those from my own line that contributed info include Jack Cady, Dionne Smajstrla, Marjorie Strickland, who sent many old pictures, Ron & Nancy Nelson, with more pictures, and Dawn Thurston, with pictures. I hope that I did not leave anyone out, but just in case, I thank them also.

Hi Fred In your records do you have an Offield (Maybe named Susan) that married a South. Thanks Kathy McKown
Hello Sally, You and my husband must be from the same lines of Easleys and Acuffs. I have Virginia Easley DeMarce's history of the early Easleys, which starts with the immigrant Easley and includes the Sullivan County Easleys. I also have Jim Easley's book which continues the Sullivan County Easleys where Virginia's book leaves off, and I have Roy Reeves Ancestral Sketches, which has a lot on the Easleys, Acuffs, Hamiltons, Vincents, etc. I'll be happy to do look-ups for anyone from these books, especially during the summer. I'll do look-ups after school starts, too, but may be a bit slower. We'll be traveling July 13-20 and will be in East TN July 26-Aug. 7, so will be delayed answering during those periods. I have a few pieces of info that may explain that since we last talked and hope to talk to you again. Please write. Thank you.

Does anyone know of a Philitues Thompson? He was the informant on death certificate of David Crockett Thompson dated 4 June 1958? David Thompson lived in Civil District 13 at 209 River Street, Kingsport, Tenn, and died in Civil District 11 at Holston Valley Community Hospital. I have queried for the same information from the funeral home of Carter-Trent (I wrote them on 4 June 2000). David Thompson was buried in the Nickels Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia ... does anyone on this list have kin buried there? Audrey Cox Vogelpohl Seattle, Washington
