Dear List, I am trying to find someone who may have access to records in Sullivan Co.,Bristol, TN area. I am trying to find a marriage record of a William Lail to Callie Wagner. I don't know the exact year, but know that it had to have been between 1900-1911. They had a son Jake Lail who was born June 6,1911. He was reported;y born in Britsol,TN. I guess that there was a chance that William and Callie were married in Johnson Co.,TN, as that is where Callie was from and was where her first son Stacy William Wagner was born. If any can help I will be ever greatful! Thanks, Dana
Greetings, Since we're talking about Cox families, I would like to know if anyone knows anything about my mystery Cox. Floyd Cox was born sometime around 1900 and was married to my husband's aunt, Nannie Maude Millhorn. Any information would be appreciated. Patricia, I have four Sarah Cox's that I'm aware of...at least two of whom might fit. One is the sister of my ggggrandfather Jeremiah Hunter Cox. Sarah's dob 12/15/1821, her parents were James Cox b 1790 or 1792 in TN died 1862 in Sullivan Co., her mother Elizabeth born @ 1797 in VA. There marriae date abt 1811. In addition to Jeremiah, Sarah's siblings included Mary, Elizabeth (Bettie) who married my gggggrandfather Thomas Hartman, Catherine, John Wesley, Christina, Nancy G, Andrew Jackson, Emaline, and the Noah Cox who you've been hearing about lately. Another Sarah Cox possible was born 10/25/1810 to William Cox, Sr.([email protected]) and Mary Wheelock ([email protected]). This William and Mary were married 1/1/1805 by Jonathan Mulkey, a Baptist Minister-on the headwaters of Kendricks Creek, Washington County. This Sarah's siblings included Elizabeth, William W., Deborah, Mary, Margaret, another Jeremiah Cox, Anna, John, Jacob, and Rodah Cox. This William, Sarah's father, was in the war of 1812 and in "Jackson's War". This info I received from another source whom I'll share with you privately. I hope this info helps and that one of these Sarah's are yours. I may have more info as well so let me know if either seems to fit with what you have. Also...if any of the above people are known to anyone, I'd appreciate any help. I've two-three lines of Cox family in the Sullivan County area from @ 1850 back. Also have a line of Hartman's that married Cox family in Sullivan area. Anything sound familiar? Sharon Hughes
I've been reading the messages about the Noah Cox family with interest. I'm looking for Sarah Cox, who married John Hunt in Sullivan County. I don't have a DOB for either of them, but their daughter Cintha Elizabeth Hunt was born in 1852. Cintha married Isaac Hodge Eades. Does anyone have any ideas about Sarah Cox? Pat -- Patricia M. Hello, I'm interested in James Cox, and his wife Elizabeth from Sullivan County TN. They are ggggrandparents. I have info from the 1850 Sullivan County census that indicates James and family (with son Noah) lived there nearby his son Jeremiah (and his wife Susannah Hartman Cox). Another Cox that lived next door was William Cox. Do you have any information on whether this William and James might have been brothers...who their parents were, etc.? James son Jeremiah and his family moved to Iowa in middle 1850's and we have very little info on where they came from except Sullivan Co TN or why they moved, etc. What info I've received has mostly been thru lost Cox cousins (Willard Peil being one) that I've located via internet and from the 1850 census. Would appreciate whatever you can add. Thanks so much for any "enlightenment", Sullivan TN records seem hard to come by. Looking For My Kuykendalls lived briefly in Hardeman County Tn. John Kuykendall married Mary Eubanks there in 1880. It appears they migrated through AL/MS/TN to AR. My grand mother Emma Jane Kuykendall Parker b. abt 1891 was in Shelby County, TN. Millington in 1920 and in Memphis in 1926 at the time of her death. She was married to William Parker. John Kuykendall was thought to be from IL but appeared in Hardeman CO. TN in 1880 to marry Mary Eubanks from MS and in Tipton CO. on voters registration 1891. Appreciate any help or suggestions. Hello Everyone, This is my first post to the list, and it isnt a very good one. The reason being is that I am looking for my Calvin Blankenship without much to go on. I found Calvin BLankenship married to Deliah on the 1850 Texas County, MO census. Living next door to Calvin is WIlliam Blankenship and his wife, Pamela Jane. Since Calvin was only a couple of years older than William, I have to assume they are related, if not brothers, because they were the only Blankenships in TExas County at this time and they were both born in TN and both of their wives in IL (just thought that was interesting). SInce Calvin Died during the civil war (there is no record on him except a muster roll), he wasnt around when the government started asking where their parents were born. I followed Deiliah until 1880. I estimate her time of death between 1881-1883. I followed William, and he lists his parents as also being born in TN ..... although its a shot in the dark, is there anyone out there that has a link to a BLANKENSHIP's that had a son named Calvin, (who was born abt 1820-25) and/or William (b. abt.1823-1826). I do not have Calvin's parents names or their wives maiden names. I am hoping to connect them to someone who might be able to shed some light on this for me .... Thank you in advance!!!! Thank you! As I type this I am listening to news about the USS COLE being attacked today in Yemen. 5 dead, dozens missing, and hurt. I live in Va. Beach and this will hit us all hard. Please remember the crew of the USS COLE and their families in your prayers. My husband just retired from the Navy, he was an engineman and where the ship was hit would have been where he would have been working had he been on a ship that was hit in this area. I would like to send a poem about those great men and their job to honor those. It is called SNIPE'S Lament. Snipe's Lament Now each of us from time to time has gazed upon the sea And watched the warships pulling out,to keep the country free And most of us have read a book or heard a lusty tale, about the men who sail these ships, through lightning, wind and hail. Its down below the water line that it takes a living toll A hot metal, living hell that sailors call the hole. Where boilers like a hellish heart, with blood of angry steam are molded gods without remorse ,nightmares in a dream. The men who keep the fires lit and make the engines run Are strangers to the world of light, and rarely see the sun They have no time for man or God,no tolerance for fear their aspect pays no living thing the tribute of a tear, For there's not much that men can do that these men haven't done. beneath the decks deep in the hole to make the engines run. And every hour of every day, they keep the watch in hell For if the fires ever fail, their ship's a useless shell. When ships converge to have a war, upon an angry sea the men below just grimly smile at what their fate might be They're locked below like men foredoomed who hear no battle cry. It's well assumed that if they're hit,the men below will die. I've seen these sweat-soaked heros fight,in superheated air, to keep their ship alive and right, though no one knows they're there. So when you see a ship pull out,to meet a warlike foe. remember faintly, if you can,the men who sail below.
