Virginia married Joseph William Pursell on Nov. 21, 1872 in Washington County. Mother's name may have been Jane, birthplace Virginia. I have hit a huge brick wall with this line of my family and would really welcome some solid information. I think I located Jane and Virginia (along with other siblings) in the 1870 Washington County census - Jane is listed as Head of household and Virginia is listed as age 15, but I haven't been able to prove this is the same Virginia. From the census listing it appears that this family migrated from Virginia to Tennessee between 1852 and 1856. I cannot locate Jane nor any children in the 1860 or 1880 census in either Washington or Sullivan Counties. Thank you all for any info you may be able to provide!

After Christmas, I will try and find the list of children. Please email me at eben219@aol.com.

I cannot help you with deeds, but can tell you that in the census 1850 TN Sullivan County (pg. 44), Samuel Jones, age 73, was married to Gracey Jones (Lucretia Gracilla Thomas Barbre) and living on property she inherited from her previous husband. By 1860, she was living on the same property with her son Peter Jackson Barbre, no Samuel. They were both too old to have had any children. I do not know a single other thing about Samuel. > From: Ginnihugh@aol.com > > I'm looking for any land sold by Samuel Jones between > 1820 and 1870. Any help would be appreciated. > Hugh Mottern

Great news! Apparently this is a followup to the beautiful book; Families and History of Sullivan Co., TN Vol. One, 1779-1992 Right? We just hope it is as large and beautiful as the previous volume! We recall nearly 1,000 family stories, histories and genealogies in the 1992 edition. Since H.T.G.S. was in charge, we know that book was not full of fables, or myths. Sorry tyler952001@yahoo.com was confused! Who is in charge of this project? How do we participate? I mean no disrespect but is this book going to truthful? The first one to say the least had a great many fairy tales in it. There were a lot of stories in the book that after 14 years of research and 300 plus interviews with citizens of Sullivan County have proven to be wishful thinking, myths, speculation and family fables. ============================== View and search Historical Newspapers.
