Ralls, two native Stewart Countians, returning from opposite parts of the global warfare, met at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Ralls, Sr. at Nashville, bringing various decorations and vivid memories of the horrors of war. Lieutenant Ralls, a B-24 Liberator bomber pilot has been awarded the Air Medal and three Oak Leaf Clusters, after flying 32 combat missions over German held territory and spending two months in a Romanian prison camp. All crowded in the 10 months spent overseas. Private Ralls wears the Second Marine Division's Presidential citation for bravery at Tarawa and tells of fighting in Saipan and Tinian Island in the Marianas, during the 21 months active duty in the Pacific. He is a gunner on a General Sherman tank. The men were born near Carlisle where their parents lived prior to moving to Nashville. The father, born and reared in the county, was salesmanager of the Dover Iron Company for many years. They are nephews of John Ralls of Carlisle.
