Thank Roe for the information. That makes my information come togther. I had Charles down as William Henry's father, but when I had 3 Stella's in my file and went and asked my dad about Pappy Willie's dad, he told me it was White.Thats when I got messed up.Your story about White is a blessing. I remember Pappy Willie's ( William Henry ) hair being white as snow. He also wore the Khaki type pants and always white shirts. He used to work in the fire watch tower down the road from Corith church and cemetery. My dad has said many time's that the only person he ever heard Pappy Willie speak bad about was his ex wife Stella. Thanks again for the information and story. ----Original Message Follows---- From: "roe lane" <roeb@compu.net> Reply-To: TNSTEWAR-L@rootsweb.com To: TNSTEWAR-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [TNSTEWAR] Mr. White Largent Date: Thu, 14 Oct 2004 22:29:01 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: from lists8.rootsweb.com ([66.43.18.27]) by mc6-f27.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.6713); Thu, 14 Oct 2004 20:31:34 -0700 Received: (from slist@localhost)by lists8.rootsweb.com (8.12.10/8.12.8) id i9F3StwL013343;Thu, 14 Oct 2004 21:28:55 -0600 X-Message-Info: vAu4ZEtdRijPXaCXfrf8OOhTcA03LO7E Resent-Date: Thu, 14 Oct 2004 21:28:55 -0600 X-Original-Sender: roeb@compu.net Thu Oct 14 21:28:54 2004 Old-To: TNSTEWAR-L@rootsweb.com, roeb@compu.net Message-Id: <20041015024958.M53133@www.compu.net> X-Mailer: Open WebMail 2.40 20040909 X-OriginatingIP: 4.152.39.130 (roeb) X-Scanned-By: MIMEDefang 2.38 Resent-Message-ID: <kqQtx.A.MQD.3P0bBB@lists8.rootsweb.com> Resent-From: TNSTEWAR-L@rootsweb.com X-Mailing-List: <TNSTEWAR-L@rootsweb.com> archive/latest/10241 X-Loop: TNSTEWAR-L@rootsweb.com Precedence: list Resent-Sender: TNSTEWAR-L-request@rootsweb.com Return-Path: TNSTEWAR-L-request@rootsweb.com X-OriginalArrivalTime: 15 Oct 2004 03:31:34.0648 (UTC) FILETIME=[78838F80:01C4B267] Having noticed the postings and questions on Mr. White Largent thought I would add what I know to the discussion. Mr. White was born 1881 in Stewart Co. TN. died in 1959 and is buried in McGee cemetery (also called Standing Rock cemetery) behind the building where Standing Rock Methodist church once was. Mr. White's Father was George Largent and his mother was Sara Jane Stavely His siblings were Charlie, Robert (Bob), Ethel, Mae, Orfie & Effie (twins), Herschel, William (Cherry), Jerry, and Marvin. Randy for your information The William Henry (Willie) you ask about was the son of Charles. Willie's siblings were Lloyd, Herman, Avie, Gerthie, Rosie (who died as a teen) and another baby who died at birth. THIS IS THE REST OF THE STORY Mr. White was never married and never had children. At the age of 19 He was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, at first his parents thought He was telling them tales about his illness but as it progressed found it to be the truth. He was taken to the Doctors in the area and the only time He would have any relief from pain was when He was strapped to a board in the lying position, of course they could not leave Him in this position all of His life so He had to try to move around as much as He could. The disease drew His legs up into the sitting position and that is how He stayed for the remainder of His life. Most people would have just given up and died in a few years but not Mr. White. I do not know what happened to Him, If He was born with the determination, obtained it through religion or wanted to show others but He began to do for himself. He would make brooms and sold them all over the county (many people today can still remember Mr. White's brooms). He would raise sweet potatoes and strawberries to sell to neighbors or whoever He could. I asked His Great niece Callie (Kentner) Bush how he could work the crops and She said He would work them on His knees, He would always have His crutches nearby but did all of the work on His knees. She remembers when the local church (Leatherwood) would only have services once a month and they would all walk to Asbury church at times to attend and Mr. White would walk the 4 miles with them on His crutches. She remembered one time Asbury having revival for a week and the went almost every night and Mr. White with them. I remember Mr. White as a very kind man to everyone even to small children as I was the first times I met Him, He was always smiling and happy. I remember He had Hair as white as snow and I thought that his name fit him very well. I remember He never wore overalls like most everyone else but would wear the Khaki type pants and I believe every time I saw Him he would have a white shirt on (most times I would see Him in church). Mr. White made a very strong impression on me and everyone who ever met Him I know would say the same. Am very glad His name was mentioned so I could share Him with all of you...Thanks: Roe -- A Compu-Net Enterprises Customer: http://www.compu.net/ ==== TNSTEWAR Mailing List ==== Stewart Co.
