    3. Source: "The Stewart-Houston Times" Newspaper, a bi-county newspaper for both Stewart County and Houston County in Tennessee. Date of Newspaper: Thursday, November 2, 1944 Page: Front Page Title: "Sgt. Holley Gets Flying Cross" S/Sgt. Everett O. Holley has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service as waistgunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters for the successful completion of 35 combat missions over German occupied territory from his base in England. Four of the missions made by Sergeant Holley during the eight months overseas, were over Berlin and two were made on D-Day over France. He also wears on the European campaign ribbon two bronze stars for participation in major operations. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie G. Holley of Cumberland City, he graduated from the W.T. Thomas High School with the class of 1942 and entered the service in January of 1943. He will report to Miami Beach, Florida at the end of his furlough.
