Sylvia, I am not personally researching the Outland family but I would suggest that you obtain their Civil War Military Service records and also check and see if either one of them have pension records. If they died during the war then if there is a pension file it would probably have been filed by their widow, if they were married. Or a pension could have been filed on behalf of one or several of their children as a minor pension. Civil War Pension records could contain a large amount of information about what happened to the individual during the war and even a good amount of family information. Hope this helps.
