David, Your information is correct about the in-laws of Martin Luther Morris (he was my great grandfather) as well as correct about Missouri Morgan. Deanna O.
Pam, What I have in my notes for Samuel Morris the school teacher is this "Sam was killed at age 33. He was a school teacher. He taught a child from the Outlaw family and one day gave the boy a "thrashing". The boy's father, Ed Outlaw, was very angry and made threats against Sam. Sam said that he was not afraid of anyone. One day when Sam was shopping Mr. Ed Outlaw walked by and fatally shot Sam while he was in the store." This story was told to me by Delwin Harris, husband of Dorothy Morris Harris on April 2, 1991. Deanna O.

I have them listed as Henry E. Cherry 1814 – 1889 and Martha J. Whitehead 1809 – 1882. I believe that a second wife of Martin was Missouri Frances Morgan 1876 – 1936. This is part of my Morgan line, although not my direct ancestor. David Morgan
Is there anyone that has information about Ed Outlaw killing the school teacher at Indian Mound Samuel Morris? I saw where Sam died October, 1921. I am related to him like this I believe. Pamela Morris Siemsen (ME) Wendell Morris my father Roy Morris my grandfather Lewis Henry Morris my great grandfather Martin Luther Morris my great , great grandfather was the brother to Samuel Asa Morris. Samuel Asa Morris was the father of Sam Morris the school teacher that was killed. I now live in Iowa as my husband is from here. Thanks to all, Pamela Morris Siemsen

Hello fellow cousins and researchers, I got a phone call from a cousin, last night, about finding Elijah DeMoss Carney, in Mississippi. I did some research, using Marcella's name, and just E D instead of Elijah, and found, E D Carney, Marcella Carney, Emily Carney, and John Noah Carney, in the 1850 census, in St Francois County, MISSOURI!!! It looks like John Noah was born in Missouri, Emily was born in TN, Marcella in TN, and Elijah in SC. Since I live in SC, I have found very little about his birth here. SC records are very few, but I keep looking. I am still waiting for info about them being in Mississippi. But, this looks like the best lead we have had in a while about Elijah and his whereabouts. It also looks like he had a wandering foot, as he is found in SC, TN, and Missouri, and it seems he just wore out Marcella............ If you all dig up some more, please let me know.. Sylvia, I am not personally researching the Outland family but I would suggest that you obtain their Civil War Military Service records and also check and see if either one of them have pension records. If they died during the war then if there is a pension file it would probably have been filed by their widow, if they were married. Or a pension could have been filed on behalf of one or several of their children as a minor pension. Civil War Pension records could contain a large amount of information about what happened to the individual during the war and even a good amount of family information. Hope this helps. For many years before she died in 1984, my mother collected information about her Boswell ancestors of Stewart County, the earliest of which were Walter Boswell and his wife Susannah Gardner Boswell. Some of the information she collected was oral legend for which no source is now known to exist. My mother communicated with many older family members who furnished her information as well as searched Stewart County records. Among the papers she left is the following information: “State of Tennessee VS James Ford Walter Boswell, Prosecutor, Pleads not guilty “Be it remembered that James Ford and Daniel Ford and Rhadferd Rutland came into Court and acknowledged themselves indebted to the State in the sum of Five Hundred Dollars Severally to be levied of their goods and chattels, lands, and tenements for the use of the state, But to be void on condition that the same James Ford do make his personal appearance here at the Next Term of this Court to answer the state of Such Charges as shall be exhibited against him by Susannah Boswell, and not depart without leave of said court.” “Walter Boswell was the prosecutor in the case. On May 2, 1814, the grand jurors appeared in a body and returned a bill of indictment against James Ford for an assault on Susannah Boswell; and James Ford, though pleading not guilty, was found guilty, fined ten dollars, and sentenced to fifteen days in the Stewart County jail. “Though the nature of the assault is not known, legend has it that James Ford, insulted Susannah while Walter was away.” The only source given for any of this information is: Stewart Co., Tenn. Court Minute Book, 1813-1814, pages 143-144. Walter Boswell is not known to have held any official position and may have been illiterate. Apparently he filed charges as any citizen might rather than in some official capacity. Part of the legend is that a fist fight between Walter Boswell and James Ford occurred at some point. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might have more information about this incident. George Holder Long Beach, MS

Norris, Absolutely! Houston County was formed in 1871 from parts of Dickson County, Stewart County, Montgomery County and Humphreys County. My fault, I wasn't paying attention to the dates like I should have, the geology of the time period of 1808-1820 would dictate that Stewart County would adjoin Dickson County. Thanks for catching that Norris! Hello, I am not researching the Ford surname but wanted to chime in here and say that Dickson County, Tennessee does not adjoin Stewart County. From Dickson County you have to travel through either Montgomery County or Houston County to get to Stewart County. I am looking for information on the following Fords who are listed in the Stewart County, Tennessee militia membership lists. 1808 John Ford 1809 John Ford 100 acres, Capt. Burton's Company 1811 Jas Ford 25 acres, Panther Creek, Capt Acree's Company 1811 Chas Ford Capt Ross's Company James and John Ford are listed in the 1820 Stewart County census. John is listed as 26-45 years of age with 3 males under 10 and a female 26-45. Also listed is a Thomas Ford 26-45 years with a female 26-45 and two younger females and one male. There is also a Daniel Ford listed in later county records that is probably related. I believe that James Ford is the same person who is in the census in Henry County in later years until his death in 1861. I know that Stewart County encompassed Henry at one time. Perhaps these Fords lived in the area that later became Henry County? Any help is appreciated. Carey Rogers
