    3. Gerry, Regarding Humphrey and Daniel Hogan - I asked Cleo Hogan, longtime Hogan researcher from Clarksville, and quite the Hogan DNA knowledge-base. Cleo pointed me to the Hogan DNA Project website at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/hogan/results On that page, Edmond Hogan (b. 1762) is shown as "H-10", in the "R Lineage #2" section, coded blue. Also in that same section is William Hogan (ca. 1777), coded "H-9". Descendants of this William Hogan are almost positive that he is the son of Humphrey Hogan. All of this means, I think, that Edmond and Humphrey were indeed related, but no one has yet proven who their common male ancestor is. That common ancestor could be as much as 400 years prior to Edmond and Humphrey. I have not proven the following, but here's what I have in my notes on the ancestry of Edmond: Edmond Hogan (b 1762 VA, d 1838 TN) James Hogan (b 1728 VA, d 1793 NC) William Griffin Hogan (b ca. 1705 VA, d 1783 NC) William Hogan (b ca. 1680 VA, d c. 1754 VA) William Hogan (b ca. 1660 VA, d 1734 VA) Hope this helps, Jim -----Original Message----- From: tnstewar-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tnstewar-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Gerry Parchman Sent: Tuesday, October 13, 2009 9:21 AM To: tnstewar@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNSTEWAR] Hogan, Russell Jim, Do you have the ancestry of Edmond Hogan (born 17 Jun 1762)? 3. Yes Jim, that map was very enlightening. I noticed Humphrey and Dickson Counties at one time was Stewart's neighbors. I guess I better see if I can find some of my people lurking in there. I just hope the door is not all the way shut. My family doesn't understand why I want to find my roots and in order to get them off my back I tell them I need to find my kin because I'm going to make a family tree quilt. They can understand the quilt. Ha! Ha! 3. Cathy, Hogans, you say? Now you've hit one of my lines! I'm descended from William Hogan, son of Edmond and brother of John H. I'm afraid that I don't have the proof you're looking for, but I do have a couple of questions and an observation: - Are you sure that Martha is the daughter of John H. Hogan? In the 1830 census, when Martha was 12, she should have been listed in John H.'s household, but he had no daughters listed who were aged 10-15. There is a spot for her in his 1820 household, and by 1840 she's married and in her own house. - Have you considered the possibility that the Martha R. Hogan listed in Edmond's 1838 will is your Martha? There is an 1842 marriage in Henry Co. for a Martha E. Hogan, which could be Edmond's named daughter instead, but he calls her Martha R. in his will, not Martha E. - You mention not having found the marriage record for Martha and Tillman Russell in Stewart Co. That is probably because the marriages for 1840 are sparse. I think something must have happened to the originals by the time that the book was transcribed in 1937 by the WPA. Unfortunately, the originals don't survive for us to confirm. Nevertheless, that marriage record would not have proven anything for you, since it would have only listed the couples' name and marriage date, not who her father was. I've scoured my notes and the county records and don't find any clues that would tie Martha to John H. The only other possibility I can think of it to trace the land that Tillman and Martha were living on at the time of the 1840 census (months after their wedding). If that land traced back to John H. Hogan, that could be the proof you need. Hope this helps, Jim -----Original Message----- From: tnstewar-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tnstewar-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Cathy Sent: Monday, October 12, 2009 12:52 PM To: TNSTEWAR@rootsweb.com Subject: [TNSTEWAR] Hogan, Russell I am ready to apply to the DAR but I have one weak link. 2. Hello, My Grandmother and her parents are buried in the Bilbrey Cemetery. The info I got from the Stewart County archives is that it is located behind the old abandoned Ruby Gordon house in Tobacco Port Family Cemetery. Would someone that lives in that area please visit the cemetery and see if it has been cared for. I was there some years ago and found it to be in pretty bad shape. I contacted the email address provided, Dan _Martin@ceiinc.org_ (mailto:Martin@ceiinc.org) , but my inquiry came back. I live in Carmel Indiana and it is not convenient for me to travel at this time. Any help certainly will be appreciated. Regards, Lois Rundle

    1. [TNSTEWAR] Vorner Cemetery
    2. While reading one of the deeds on the distribution of land of Mr. W. I. Cathey, I read a reference to a Vorner Graveyard at the mouth of Leatherwood creek. I have lived in the area all my life and have never heard of any Vorner's in the area, I have also checked all of the census from 1830 until 1910 and found no Vorner's listed. There are only 4 know cemeteries in the area on both sides of the bay, Bomar Hill, Wynns, Brooks (African American) and one which is I believe the Martin Cemetery (Not to be confused with the one on Standing Rock) This one is on Bobcat trail in the Leatherwood Lots area. Does anyone have the name Vorner in their ancestry in the area? Roe
