Rita: Probably is Varner as that is the closest name I have found in the Stewart County census but none of those in dist. 10 or 11 where the cemetery would be located. I all most certain it is the Bomar Hill cemetery as I have a 1926 map of the area and the deed calls looks as if it would encompass the Bomar Hill cemetery. Also have the TVA cemetery relocation project list and it calls the Bomar Hill cemetery Scaraborough cemetery. What is funny the TVA list contains no Vorners (Varners) or Scaraboroughs buried in the cemetery.
Hi Anne: Wonderful to hear from you again! It wasn't your email box...it was me. I simply didn't get one out last week. Believe it or not...I am ashamed to say I forgot. I am getting back in the routine again...but slowly. :-) Expect one this Sunday and I am sooo glad you are still on the list! I thought that maybe I wasn't subscribed, but when I tried to subscribe, I got an email stating that I was already on the list. If you didn't get a issue out this week, I certainly understand, but if you did and I missed it, I am sad. It is really great to have you back - just don't over do (that's the nurse in me coming out). At any rate, Welcome Back!!! No Vorner's in my FT. Wonder if it could be Varner? I. Cathey, I read a reference to a Vorner Graveyard at the mouth of Leatherwood creek. I have lived in the area all my life and have never heard of any Vorner's in the area, I have also checked all of the census from 1830 until 1910 and found no Vorner's listed. There are only 4 know cemeteries in the area on both sides of the bay, Bomar Hill, Wynns, Brooks (African American) and one which is I believe the Martin Cemetery (Not to be confused with the one on Standing Rock) This one is on Bobcat trail in the Leatherwood Lots area. Does anyone have the name Vorner in their ancestry in the area? Sorry, I made a typo. Daniel Hogan immigrated to America in 1763, not 1863, according to one message board posting. Gerry Parchman
To apply to the DAR, I would recommend you go to their website and read the information there. I am lucky, there is a local branch here in Rome, GA, who I contacted and went to one of their meetings. One of the ladies is working with me, to fill out the application and get all my documentation together. I already have my line traced back to Edmund Hogan, have copies of his military/pension records and he is already established as a Patriot. Good luck.
Thanks Jim for that Hogan DNA site. Since Daniel belongs to the R Lineage #1, he is probably not a close relative of Humphrey, if Edmond is the son of Humphrey. I know that Humphrey was associated with the Long Hunters who spent months to years away from home in the Kentucky wilderness hunting in the mid 1700s. I also found a reference that Daniel Hogan had only one son, John. I don't know if that was by a previous wife or by the widow, Elizabeth Herrod. The log cabin built in the Nashville area by Daniel Hogan is still occupied by Mike Cunningham, a descendant who lives there according to his comments on genforum in 2001. He had seen copies of Bible records and noted that the Bell-Hogan papers are on file with the Hogan Family Papers in the Manuscript section of the Tennessee State Library. He says that claims are made that Daniel came to America in about 1863 at the age of 30. I think Humphrey was already in Kentucky by that time. Gerry Parchman
