Hello All, I am sure you have noticed that my latest postings have been coming from the 1940-1950. I have had a request that I post from these years, so I will do that for a little while. I would also like to let everyone know that if anyone ever needs an obituary looked up, I would be happy to do so. Please make sure you have at least the name of the person, the month and year of their death. The obituaries on the microfilmed papers are not indexed. Enjoy these postings. In Christ, Melissa Barker
Thanks, Deanna! Yes, I saw these two articles and was wondering about Christopher Brandon arriving in Stewart Co. at the age of nine. They must have moved from SC to NC then to TN in those 9 years and George Brandon seemed to have settled and died in Rutherford Co., TN. I have found some very interesting things in my Brandon research. They may have been from Union Co., SC then Rowan Co., NC and possibly originally from York Co., PA. This has now become a challenge for me and I am going to do more research. At the same time I will be looking for our Gross ancestors because they migrated & settled in these same areas. Now all I need is time! There aren't enough hours in the day for me to play! Blair Joyce

I guess this is off the subject, but genealogy is partly about nostalgia and I remember a Brother Carl who was pastor at (I believe) West Paris Baptist Church when I visited there as a child. Date of Newspaper: Tuesday, April 11, 1950 Page: Front Page Article Title: "Census Count Gets Underway" Enumerators to take the 1950 decennial census of Stewart County have been announced by Leroy Cherry, Crew Leader; and are as follows: Miss Nancy Peacher, Mrs. Jewel Vaughan, Mrs. Eunice Coppedge, Mrs. Ann Clark, Mrs. Blanch King, Perry D. Atkins, William D. Howell, Harold L. Stone, Hershell Crockarell, Mrs. Clara Sykes, Kenneth Herndon, Bruce Whitford and Scott Hart. The work of taking the census of the county began Saturday, April 1, and will be completed by the end of the month, Cherry announced. (NOTE: I thought this was a pretty interesting article to post, especially since we all scower the census records for our ancestors. Even though the 1950 census won't be released for public view for many more years to come, seeing some of the people who took these census was interesting.)
