Sorry, Leslie, I don't live there (I live in NJ), but have driven the roads along Guice's Creek (south of the Cumberland. I think most of the furnaces were further north and also west? Gerry
The Rootsweb search engine goes on the blink all too often, and I can't figure out why. Use the FreeFind search, which is the text box with the "Find" button in the Search Engine section of the main Stewart Co. page. Gerry can you give me a location on the map for the Bass cemetery or the post office which was in front of it. It was directly across from where the furnace remains are on The Trace now. The name got garbled over the years to Grice Creek (originally named for first Settler named Guice) The creek you identified as Grist is Grice (formerly Guice). The word that looks like Issac is actually Jesse, which I saw on the posted map. Arthur Powers lived in the northern areas after about 1910 when John Parchman's widow, Sally Parchman died. (John was Jesse's older brother.) About where the creek crossed the border from Houston County is where Jacob Parchman lived, and is still owned by Parchman descendants today. Jacob was another brother, a little older than John. There is a local road there called Billy Parchman Rd. Gerry Parchman

Hi! Does anyone know why Stewarts' search engine is on the blink? I can't live without that! Also a big thank you to Melissa Barker. I've found some names.
Harry, Thanks for the offer. I'm looking for the owners of property along Guice's Creek, mostly east of the creek, just before the Montgomery County Line. Besides Parchmans, there were Outlaws, Kellys, Dowdys, Kizers, Tagerts, and Harrods (plus others) depending on the year. I'd be interested in knowing the approximate boundaries. I know that Jacob Parchman's land was separated into Houston County about 1870. John's may have been between Jesse and Jacob. Gerry Parchman
