This is what I know. Joel BROWN b. between 1730-1740 (based on 1830 census) in NC; d. abt 1835; wife has been listed as Mary SEAY b. 1750-1760 in NC; d between 1830-1840 They started out in NC. They married about 1776 and lived in Bertie NC. All children appear to be born in NC and are spread between the years 1777 and 1801. There were a total of 5 sons 3 of whom may have stayed in NC. They may have moved westward to Randolph co, NC, before arriving in TN after 1801. Joel BROWN wrote a will (Will Book 1788-1842 Sumner Co., TN) dated 4 March 1834 and proved 1835-6. The synopsis lists eldest son John Brown. Second son Stephen Brown. Daughter Polly Acrey. Son John Brown. Daughter Peggy Payne. Daughter Raney Laseter. Appoints Jesse Laseter and John Brown executors. The daughter Polly (Mary) was born between 1774-1790 and it has been listed as b. 1777. She may be the wife of John ACREE also of Bertie NC. They moved to TN and lived in Stewart Co. "Raney" is Lourana b. 1796 and she married Jesse LASSITER in 1826. She lived until 10 July 1870 according to one website, although she was listed on the census just 2 days before that in Stewart Co. I cannot nail down which John BROWN may have been the son. Nor can I find a Stephen BROWN living in TN at the time of Joel's death. I am trying to place Margarette BROWN in this family, possibly as the daughter "Peggy" who was born between 1794 and 1804. My Margarette BROWN was born about 1801 in NC and she married William PAYNE abt 1821 in Davidson Co, TN. According to the Christian Advocate she died in 1853 at the age of 52. She named her PAYNE children Robert, Greenwood, William, Mary Malvina, Martha Margaret, and Priscilla and one female died as a child. They lived in Davidson County in 1830 and 1840 census and are in Sumner County (with half the farm in Robertson Co ) in the 1850 census. I welcome your checking your database for any of these names and appreciate any help you listers can give me. Thanks a bunch. 1. Re: [TNSTEWAR] FREDERICK GROSS - JOHN GEER
    2. Hello to All: Yesterday, (Sunday-Jan13), I requested any information in regard to the conection of Frederick Gross to John Geer as being shown the father of Frederick. I stated that Jacob Gross and Catharina Glantz are shown as the parents of Fridrich Gross, born in 1768. What I neglected to tell was the rest of the story, is that Catharina died before 1772 and Jacob married Elizabeth (?) and they had Cathrine or Cathrina Elizabeth Gross, born 1772, who married Balser Niehoof, at Frederick, Maryland, 19 May 1795. No information has been found beyond the marriage of Cathrina. When did Jacob Gross die? Did Elizabeth eventually marry John Geer which would have made Mr Geer, Fridrich (Frederick) his father. Hopefuly this is as clear as mud, but apparently someone out there has the answer. Thank you, Cliff Tyler & Bruce Gross </HTML>

    1. [TNSTEWAR] Vickers Family update
    2. Jim Long
    3. Here's a Vickers family update, which will be of interest to those researching the Vickers, Atkins, Cathey and McGee families in Stewart County. James Vickers appears in Stewart County as early as the 1820 census, and no later than 1828. From 1830 on, we only see the families of Michael M. Vickers (1802/1866) and George W. Vickers (1808/1870's) in Stewart County. Daughters of Michael M. Vickers married into the Atkins, Cathey and McGee families of Stewart County. James Vickers arrived in Hamilton County, Illinois about 1829, and died there on 20 May 1840. His will, written 23 April 1840, names wife Elizabeth Vickers, daughter Rachael Mahalia Vickers and granddaughter Elizabeth Jemimah Allen. Also appearing in Hamilton County at the same time was the family of Phoebe Vickers, who married about 1825 in Stewart County to Jeremiah T. F. Lewis (born 1807 in Stewart County). After his death, James Vicker's widow Elizabeth filed an application for a Revolutionary War pension, citing James' service in the War. The pension application (numbered R 10939) was ultimately rejected based on lack of sufficient proof of military service, but contains valuable genealogical information: James Vickers' first wife was Polly Johnson. Their eldest child, John Vickers, was born in 1784. James married for a second time, on 18 October 1799 in Sevier County, Tennessee, to Elizabeth Mowery, who was born 1 September 1782. The name Michael Mowery appears in the names of the descendants of Michael M. Vickers of Stewart County. Michael M. Vickers is of an age to be the eldest son of James Vickers and Elizabeth (Mowery) Vickers. I am convinced that James and Elizabeth (Mowery) Vickers of Sevier County, TN were in Stewart County before moving to Illinois, and are the ancestors of the Vickers families of Stewart County. Jim

    1. Re: [TNSTEWAR] FREDERICK GROSS - JOHN GEER
    2. Hello to All: Myself and Bruce Gross descend from Frederick Gross Sr., said to have been born 1765 to 1768 in Maryland. We have researched for years and have never found information in regard to a Frederck Gross born in 1765. However, we keep finding information in regard to John Geer being the father of Frederick Gross born in 1765. We have found no documentation for that claim. We did find a Fridrich Gross born 1768 at Frederick, Maryland, son of Jacob Gross and Elizabeth Glantz on the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Grace Lutheran (Rocky Hill) church, originally known as St Peters of Woodsboro, Maryland, Fredrick County. This has been a brick wall which we have not been able to get through. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Clifford Tyler at: [email protected] </HTML>
