Norris, Did "Alvey" Wallace migrate to SE, MO? We had a neighbor named Alvey Wallace and I picked cotton for him. He took a LOAD of people, the whole neighborhood to Town, "Kennett, MO,yeah Sheryl Crow's hometown" on Saturday night. We went to "the show" and watched all the westerns, not to mention "Tarzan Cereal". I was 10-15 years old. His daughters Barbara, and Patsy were among my best friends. He had a son, "Junior" was all I ever knew. The kids still live there. I sure loved that family. This message was supposed to go to Harry, not the list.? Please excuse my mistake. Thanks, Anne
Harry, Forgive my tardiness - I have been traveling, first to Big Bend National Park with several other couples.? We "dry camped" in our motorhomes and took daytrips in our 4-wheel drive cars to remote areas of the park, such as a deserted mercury mine, a tinaja, and we took several hikes.? We love that park and the beautiful scenery that it provides for us, to say nothing of the wildflower and cacti. Last week-end I flew to Raleigh, NC to visit with my 86 year old sister.? We drove to Spartenburg, SC to see my 18 year old grandson compete in an indoor drum production.? It was most enlightening, since I had no idea what I was going to see - very choreographed and very loud.? His group, Odyssey, from Atlanta, GA won first place. This coming week-end I am driving to Dallas to babysit my 6 month old granddaughter while her parents entertain at a wedding shower.? I say all of this just to let you know that I have not been sitting at home ignoring your questions. First,? we all know that census records are aides for us, not guaranteed facts.? Second, I am the culprit for sharing misinformation regarding Wyatt Tuggle.? I have attempted to get the records corrected, but the person that I told that Wyatt was the son of Harris will not change his database, thus the information is out on the internet, spreading false info. When I first started looking for my ancestors, I was extremely inexperienced in the importance of documentation.? I found John Tuggle, son of Harris B. Tuggle, in TN, with a birthdate that was close enough to Wyatt's that I got really excited.? Then, Wiley Koon sent out an inquiry about Wyatt and I responded with what I was ASSUMING was correct information regarding our ancestor. Upon further investigating, I discover that John Tuggle, son of Harris Tuggle, was dead before Harris wrote his will.? In fact, John Richard Tuggle was born 16 March 1811 and died 25 August 1835.? He was married to Lelitia Butler.? So, with these documented facts and nothing to document Wyatt Tuggle as the son on Harris Tuggle, I rest my case. As far as Talitha Elizabeth Stavely is concerned, my only arguments for her being Eli's daughter and not his sister is based on census reports.? And as I have already said, we know that they are helpful, but not gospel. Eli Stavely was born in 1790.? In the 1840 Henry Co, TN census, 1 female, aged 20-30, is listed as living in the house with Wyatt Tuggle.? That would make her born between 1810 and 1820.? There are also 3 females living in this household under 5 years of age:? Talitha Jane-5 (1835), Mary Ann-4 (1836), and Angeline-months old (1841). In the 1850 Stewart Co, TN census, Wyatt Tuggle is living with his wife, Elizabeth, listed as being 48 years old.? This would make her born in 1802.? I believe that this is an error. In the 1870 Stewart Co, TN census, Cely Stavely, age 58, is listed in the household of James and Amanda Patton, one of her daughters.? If she is 58, she would have been born in 1812. In the 1880 Stewart Co, TN census, Wyatt Tuggle is 74 years old, having been born in 1806, in KY.? Talitha Elizabeth in listed next door to Mary Ann Rogers, another daughter.? I am not currently enrolled with Ancestry.com, so I cannot verify all of this information, but I got my census reports from the actual census that was posted by Ancestry.com. I will be happy to share with you any other info that you might require to help with your family research.? I hope that this helps clear up some of your questions.? I do believe that what I have shared with you to be the truth and it can be documented. As of this time, I am still trying to locate Wyatt's parents.? Since he was listed as being born in KY, I am pursuing that line of thought.? There were several Thomas Tuggle descendants who migrated to KY, so I am confident that that is where we will find Wyatt's parents. If Eli Stavely was born in 1790 and Talitha Elizabeth was born in 1812, then Eli would have been 22 years old and this just seems reasonable to me.? I realize that Sarah Stavely was born in 1842.? That would make Eli 52 years old, but I guess that is possible, so there you have it. A Tuggle cousin, Anne -----Original Message----- From: Harry Meadows <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Fri, 22 Feb 2008 5:31 pm Subject: Re: [TNSTEWAR] Stewart Co. info - Stavely Anne, I have to disagree with you on both counts. In the 1850 census Elie (Eli) Stavely is 60 years old and Elizabeth Stavely Tuggle is 48. To be the father of Elizabeth Eli would have to have fathered her at 11. Maybe possible but I think highly unlikely. I also show Harris B. Tuggle and Margaret Bradshew as the parents of John Wyatt Tuggle. I didn't do this research myself but I did get it from a very reliable source. The 1850 census is interesting: Hh 838 Wyatt Tuggle 44 & wife Elizabeth 48 Hh 839 Andrew Meadows 21 & wife Tabitha 14 Actually Andrew Jackson Meadows & wife Talitha Jane Tuggle Meadows. Married one week when the census was taken. Hh 840 Henry Meadows 50 (Father of Andrew Jackson & mt gg grandfather) Hh 841 Elie Stavely 60 I have found no evidence that either Henry Meadows or Wyatt Tuggle ever owned any land. Eli Stavely owned quite a lot of land so I think Henry and Wyatt worked for Eli in some capacity. I am very interested in your reasoning that Wyatt Tuggle is not the son of Harris B. Tuggle and Margaret Bradshaw. Thanks for your response. I have a granddaughter that was born Sept. 6 in Dallas, TX and I have been running back and forth to see her.? I do?apologize for being so slow. My info on Talitha Elizabeth Stavely is very stetchy.? Vanetta Stavely of Dover wrote to me in 2000 regarding Talitha.? She could have been the oldest daughter of Eli Stavely and Betsy Collier. Or, she could have been Eli's sister.? Her age would indicate that she was a daughter of Eli.? There is a lot of information about Eli and Betsy in the library in Dover.? I wish I could offer more info.? What about Wyatt Tuggle?? Do you have his parents?? I am almost certain that he was NOT the son of Harris Tuggle and Margaret Bradshaw.
