A query was recently posted to identify Fannie B. Kemp, wife of Ezekiel Jenkins. Ask and ye shall receive. Frances (Fannie) Betsy Kemp (15 Nov. 1884 – 22 Feb. 1966) married Dr. Ezekiel Walker (Zeke) Jenkins (26 Nov. 1979 – 26 Dec. 1922), son of William Chesley (Bill Sam) and Jane Boston Jenkins, 2 May 1906. She took for her second husband Willie Stanford Donoho (11 May 1914 – 9 Dec. 1992) on 18 May 1935. This union produced no issue. Fannie was a member of the U.D.C. (49/99) based on her uncle John Marlin Kemp’s service. Fannie was one of nine children of James Layton Kemp (5 June 1842 – 2 Aug. 1913) and Virginia Josephine Witt (26 July 1846 – 31 Mar. 1914) (NOTE: the cemetery book incorrectly lists her birth year as 1845), daughter of Dandridge A. and Elizabeth (Betsy) Williams Brockett Witt, 28 July 1864. (NOTE: On her DAR application, their daughter Fannie Betsy declared that her father, James Layton, was born June 1843 and died Aug. 1914, and that her mother Virginia Witt was born Aug. 1845 and died Mar. 1915. However, the Pankey Book confirms the tombstone life dates given following their names.) James and Virginia were born, raised, married, lived and died in Smith Co., TN. Virginia Josephine Witt and Martha Evelyn Witt, wife of William (Uzzi/Uzza/Auzy) Kemp, were sisters as well as nieces to Mary (Polly) Ann Williams, Asa (Acy) Kemp’s wife. Oops ------- Of course, for Dr. Ezekiel (Zeke) Jenkins I meant life dates of 26 Nov. 1879 - 26 Dec. 1922. I apologize for my fat fingers.
