Mary, In the 1900 Smith co. census it states that Martha Elizabeths year of birth is 1856 which usually comes right from the horses mouth. May have come right from the horses mouth Rick, but that doesn't mean that it reached the census takers ears correctly! :-) It could even have been a simple thing like the person recording the census transposing the numbers when he wrote the year. 1856 as apposed to 1865.
