Mary, I am glad you brought that to my attention, the source of my Jenkins info has passed bad info on to me before. I do know my 85 year old aunt told me her granny (Martha Elizabeth (Jenkins) Silcox told her she was born in Macon co. Could my source have possibly confuse Henry sr. with Henry Jr. ?? Rick Woodard
Rick, Cal's column http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnsmith/ccarticles/aug31-ABCD-1950.htm and http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnsmith/ccarticles/Aug30-ABC-1956.htm dose say that Henry and Lucinda had a daughter Martha but he has no further info on her. But, I'm setting her looking at Lucinda's widows pension application which is dated Nov. 17th, 1863. In this application she names as her surviving children. Mary Ann born 19 November 1849; William C. born 5th of March 1855; John W. born 3rd of April 1857; Matilda born 9th of March 1859; Henry L. born 10th of July 1861; Lucinda E. born the 9th of Sept 1863. So if they had a daughter Martha she wasn't living when this application was filed. Lucinda died before recieving Henry's pension and Samuel Boston and Joel & Jane Hesson Gregory (the grandparents also filed papers because the children were living with them after Lucinda died. 1870 Macon Co. Census Gregory Joel E. 63 Gregory Jane 63 Jenkins Henry L. 8 Jenkins Lucinda E. 6 I think Lucinda is the one Cal refers to as Bettie but he says she died young. And I don't have a marriage or death date for her. By 1870 Mary Ann was married to Ben Coley and the other three children were living with Samuel Jenkins in Smith co. TN 1870 Smith Co. cdpg 75B. TN Jenkins Matilda E. 11 TN I have no way of knowing for sure but I tend to agree with Gary and your Martha Elizabeth may have been daughter of Samuel Jenkins, Jr. and Mary Boston. Cal's column is lacking on many of their children. And he says some went to Texas. I don't have anything on Samuel's family past the 1880 census of Macon Co. My Macon info comes from the transcribed books. 1860 Macon transcribed census all born TN. HH# 919 Jenkins, Samuel S. 25 Boston Mary 25 maiden name added by transcribers Jenkins George 7 Jenkins B. After saying all this. Do you have a copy of your Martha Elizabeth's death certificate? That should list her parents if the informant knew who her parents were.
