Jean: Who were the main heads of the family? How far back do you have? Any information that would help me with the date the family came to Smith Co. or the maiden name of Cynthia Hiatt/ Hiett would be very much appreciated. My goal is to find the exact location today of William Arnett's farm [1832-1853]. I've narrowed it down to about one-half mile area on Little Peyton Creek after studying about 100 deeds in that area. Key farms near him are the Porters, Andersans adjacent, B.P Lipscomb and Ballows just to the southeast. I've collected information on about 50 of his neighbors and fellow church members--Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Just keep me in mind if you find any detailed information on exact farm locations in that region other than what we have on the Smith County TN GEN web site. Hello Rob, John and Cynthia Hiatt were on the 1830 census with a child of 5-10 years p. 39, #284. In 1840 they again were listed with a son 5-10 years and a son 15 - 20 p.73 middle district. In 1850 John is listed as a blacksmith with wife Cynthia and a son John, Jr. age 19, #884 North of Cumberland River and East of C F River. Older son Joseph Hiatt has his own family - wife Sally, and children John M, Cyrus, and Martha E and is shown in entry #885. According to the 1850 census John Hiatt was born in VA and was 55 years old. Cynthia was born in TN and was 52 years old. I have this also in a family Bible and have read the will and inventory of John Hiatt. Hiatt was spelled in different ways. It ended up as Hiett. The family lived in Pleasant Shade and then eventually in the Lafayette area of Macon County. My husband's family moved to Texas.
