Thanks Mary. I am confused though about ONE child?? I have found in other stuff, that Miranda who married Thomas C Thomas is one in the same as "Mirada" who married John Wiseman Smith. John W Smith was born about the same time the FIRST Miranda was?? Just wondering what you thought about this. I have not looked at the Census?? Somebody also has a son, Samuel, attached as a child to this family?? He was b. c1835? Sue In a message dated 7/15/05 6:59:56 P.M. Ok, lets see! :-) Where do I start! :-) 1850 Smith Co. TN Jenkins James 55 Jenkins Susan 55 Jenkins Mahaldy 16 Jenkins Marada 11 Jenkins Sam'l 19 Jenkins James 23 I think this is were most people get that they had a son Samuel but I don't believe this Samuel is there son. I believe this is James nephew, Samuel, Jr. son of Samuel & Sabra Goad. If you look at Samuel Sr. he doesn't have a son Samuel living with him in 1850 and Samuel Jr. didn't marry Mary Boston until 1852. I don't think Cal ever said that James had a son Samuel? But I do believe James 23 is James Jr., son of James and Susanna. Cal's Column Aug 30, 1956 gives only 8 children. Dick, Jim Jr., Archibald, Ralston, Hulda, Marie, Ran, and Jeff. Cal's Column Aug 31, 1950 gives 9 children. Jefferson, Arch, Jim, Ralston, Dick, Maria, Miranda, "Mirada", and Mahulda. I would have to find the correct columns but Cal has conflicting info on Mirada.(various spellings). One column says she married John Smith and one says she married Josh Smith I think? She was still living at home in 1860 listed as Marilda 21. She married Joshua W. Smith about 1860-1865. and listed as Radie Smith in 1870 census. 1870 Smith Co. cdpg 73A (is this the correct family, where are the other children Smith Joshua 41 b. TN Smith Radie 30 b. TN Smith Mary A. 5 b. TN Smith Joshua W. 12 b. TN Smith Margaret 3 b. TN I believe Mary A. & Margaret are Mirada's children. Joshua Smith's first wife Sarah Smith (daughter of "Elder" Daniel W. Smith 1786-1857) seems to have died prior to the 1860 census no wife listed. I'm thinking because of Joshua W. 2 years that Sarah died 1858-1860. 1860 Smith Co. Smith Joshua 36 b. TN farmer Smith Martha 17 b. TN Smith Robert D. 16 b. TN Smith Emily H. 12 b. TN Smith Minerva 9 b. TN Smith Joshua W. 2 b. TN Miranda (various spellings) b. 1823 is not the same person. She is married to Thomas C. Thomas and is living in Macon Co. TN from 1850 through 1880 and to her death in 1903. I don't have 1900 census info on her though. 1850 Macon Co. Thomas Thomas C. 37 b. TN Thomas Miranda 25 b. TN Thomas Parazetta 4 b. TN Thomas Doct. F. 2 b. TN Thomas Zachary W. 6 mo. b. TN She is listed as Marinda in 1860 Macon Transcription, Maranda in 1870 and Maranda in 1880. 1900 I don't have? I don't know anything about a John Wiseman Smith? :-) Mary Knight Thanks Mary.
