Obit in Carthage Courier, Smith Co., Tenn issue of 23 Jan 1992 LUCILLE POWELL Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Powell of the Mcclures Bend Community at Defeated Creek were conducted Friday afternoon at the Carthage Chapel of sanderson Funeral Home with burial in the Smith county Memorial Gardens. Bro. Gary Lee and Bro. Frank Bratcher officiated at the 1:00 p.m. services. Mrs. Powell died Wednesday afternoon Jan. 17, 1992 at St. Thomas Hospital at the age of 81. Born in Smith County the daughter of the late Haley and Maggie Kennedy Kemp, she was the widow of the late Carsie Powell to whom she was married Feb. 16, 1927 and who preceeded her in death on October 31, 1986. Mrs. Powell was a member of the Parthenia United Methodist church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Forrest (Carolyn) Nesbitt of Defeated Creek; 2 sons; Billy Powell and Douglas Powell both of Defeated Creek, 2 sisters; Julia Donoho of Carthage and Ethel Jackson of Nashville; 2 brothers Hubert Kemp and Cordell Kemp both of Nashville; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
