Re John Milton Sloan & Nancy, I have same s/o Jason Ramsey Sloan, s/o John Sloan. Re John Milton Sloan - you will find him in the Macon Co. Vol II Cem. Book with errors - Pg 60 lists John M. Sloan with date 23 Jan 1884 (NOT 1834 which is correct) with death date of 18 Nov 1920 - with Nancy Sloan 29 mar 1835 - 1 July 1900. It states they are buried in the Brockett Cemetery IN PLEASANT SHADE, SMITH CO. I have found records stating this Brockett Cem. is both in Macon Co., (RBS) and in Pleasant Shade...I Know the territory is close but which should we use? Re Archibacl W. Re Martha Sloan - I find her listed as only Nannie Moss b 5 may 1862 w/o of James Moss in the Macon Co. II Book. Does she also have the name of Nancy? I list her as Martha (Nannie) Sloan. Melba, We have updated the Brockett Cemetery. It is in Macon County with a Pleasant Shade address. John's birthdate is 23 Jan 1834, I read Naney Sloan instead of Nancy. Also the Russell Cemetery, but the info from a family member states A W Sloan is the D/O Johnny R & Mary A "Polly" Russell and death date is 24 Dec 1940 on stone. The Nannie Moss death date is 13 Sep 1905. Thanks Mary....I had always thought Brockette in Smith Co. and then when I began the search in the Macon Co. Books wanted to find out for sure...remember years ago taking Callie Taylor and Opal West for a ride from Pleasant Shade into Macon Co. and had recalled how close the lines were...those girls were so cute...they had not been anywhere for a long while and you would have thought we took them to Paris. I do miss them. (You keep reminding me to go into those sites....I need 2 computers going at the same time.) II Book and buried in the Milltown Cemetery in Red Boiling Springs, Macon, Tenn. He is listed as Ira J. Sloan and she is listed as Dora Ann 1871 - 1934. Most of the time I see her listed as Dora Ann Goad Sloan but in 1910 Macon Co. Census she is listed as Isadora Ann. Info from David R. Vargas on Ira's obit states he was buried in the Jenkins Cemetery at Milltown. I don't believe Milltown is the same as Red Boiling Springs? Milltown is or was a community. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that? Macon Co., Times, April 2, 1944 Ira Jason Sloan, age 75 years, died at his home near Red Boiling Springs at about five-thirty o'clock Sunday morning after several months of poor health. Death was attributed to a pulmonary disorder. His wife, Mrs. Dora Ann Goad Sloan, preceded her husband in death about ten years ago. He is survived by three sons, Fred Sloan, of Red Boiling Springs; Cordell of Difficult; and Pvt. John Edward Sloan, now in a hospital at Martinsburg, W. Va.; three daughters, Mrs. J. W. Green, of Madison; Mrs. Houston Newberry, of Old Hickory; and Mrs. Tom Halliburton, who resided with her father; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Burial was made Monday about 11 o'clock in the Jenkins Cemetery at Milltown, following funeral services in charge of Elder E. M. McDonald. The deceased was a professed Christian, although he was not identified with any church. He was the son of John Milton and Nancy Parkhurst Sloan and was born and reared in the Pleasant Shade section. However, he had resided in this county for more than half a century. He was a good man, loved and honored for his honesty, good character and sterling worth. I have been unable to find Nancy B. info so far and wonder if she died as a child. I did not locate her on the 1880 census but still checking. I don't have Isadora (Dora's) burial place but I guess it would also be Jenkins Cemetery at Milltown, Macon Co. TN? Mary K.
John can double check me on this but I believe the Brockett Cem. is in Russell Hill, Macon Co. Just a ways up the road from Pleasant Shade but over the county line. The 911 address for the William Brockett Cemetery is 6177 Carthage Road, Pleasant Shade, Macon County, TN. We are putting a 911 address on all Macon County Cemeteries with a GPS reading, also a 911 map page & sector # for the new book. It will have the 911 map & sectors in it.
