    3. If I had the book and it as legal to do so I would gladly do a site and transcribe it. Everyone needs all the help we can get in research. Helen I have a copy of the original book of North Carolina Wills and Inventories by J. Bryan Grimes published in 1912. It has been republished by (can't think of the publisher at the moment) but I was posting stuff from the book and was told I was told that because it had been republished it was copyrighted. I called the publisher and they told me that the only thing they could copyright was their new index and that I could post or publish anything I wanted from my original copy. I've see where some county histories from 1880's 1890's era have been republished but I don't believe anyone can copyright the orginal work if they republish it. They can only copyright their version which would probably only include a new index. So Helen if I understand all this correctly, if you find a copy of an original publication of Goodspeeds you can transcribe it and put it anywhere you want. Mary Knight

    3. That is the way that copyright has been explained to me. You can only copyright your own work.... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Knight" <maryknight@famvid.com> To: <TNSMITH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 25, 2005 8:32 PM Subject: Re: [TNSMITH] History of Smith county > > > If I had the book and it as legal to do so I would gladly do a site and > transcribe it.
