In 1986 a HISTORY OF SMITH COUNTY TENNESSEE was complied. Nina Sutton and Sue Maggart Petty were terrific as editors. Families were invited to send stories of their Smith Co. families. This is a huge book of over 800 pages and oversized pages but a good source to use when searching for Smith Co. surnames. It also includes some history of Smith County in its' early day settlement.
