    3. Info re Pony/Poney Hackett....On a visit years ago with Ernest Green (husband of "E" "L" Hackett Green) he related this story. Elijah Leonard (Poney/Pony) Hackett (spouse of Alice Toney) was 38 years of age when he was shot and killed in Pleasant Shade. He was to have be sworn in and taken office as Sheriff the first of September 1914. Elijah L. Hackett was killed a month before the birth of his daughter "E" "L" Hackett. Her initials stand for those of her father and these initials are her only given name. Ernest related that he thought there were pictures and stories in old Carthage Courier re this. (During next visit to Tennessee Ernest died of a heart attack suddenly...we attended his funeral service.) 3. Elijah Leonard Hackett and Alice Gregory were my mother's maternal grandparents. I have my mother's genealogy material, including the copy of the Courier article re: Pony's death, and will be glad to share. Email me at rking@mtsu.edu and I'll scan and send attachments.
