Sandra- I have been in contact with AL Douglas, a decendant of Larkin or associated families in some way. Anyways, I know where Larkin went to in Illinois. Today, it would take about hour and a half to two hrs to get there, which would spell several days journey by horse, etc. It is more than just a county or two away, and they wouldnt even be anywhere near close in the census. In the 1830 census of Johnson County, IL, where my great great grandfather Anderson settled, there were not any other Douglasses listed for many years. Even his surviving son, which I decend from and have a good line on did not appear himself until 1850. So, from 1830 to 1850, there are no Douglasses even within one day's travel by methods of the day. Furthermore, if you factor in that prior to 1850, Johnson was the second largest county in the area, it rules out the possibility of any of his relatives even being in the same county as he was. Present day Johnson county was eventually broken into like ! 6 or 7 present day counties. The White County area, which Larkin and group landed was still more than one county away when Johnson was enormous in size. Furthermore, we have nothing more than suppositions at this point to connect the two....one common name, which unfortunately isn't much of a link--yet!
