Well, here is the problem. My Anderson moved to Illinois by 1830. He shows up on the 1830 census for Johnson County, IL. Unfortunately both he and Elizabeth died by 1834. So, the Elizabeth you have in 1850 is not her, as she had already been deceased nearly 20 years. As for who their ancestors are and where they may have come from, that's anybody's guess. I do not know, nor have any idea. That is what i am attempting to discover. The other Douglasses on the 1820 census sould be relatives of some sort, but I have no records or other information to connect them. Honestly, Anderson had been a subject of mystery for nearly 200 years in my family, until I discovered him in Smith county in 1820. However, now the mystery is just bigger!!!! In order to figure out this new mystery, I need to find birth or marriage certificates, or perhaps a family bible to be able to crack the riddle that i now have before me. The pre-1820 censuses for Tennessee or virtually non-existent, so they are of no help. I really need to get in touch with someone very familiar with smith county and has access to their local records. At this point, i am very skeptical whether or not I will even be able to solve the mystery of who Anderson and Elizabeth's parents were. Additionally, on the question of where Elizabeth came from, that is anybody's guess also, as we have never had a maiden name. I had hoped that the smith county connection could perhaps help shed some light on all of the unasnwered questions. Living with her is Richard Douglas age 18(b abt 1832 in TN) a carpenter and Martha Douglas age 16(b. abt 1834 in TN). In a Smith Co deed book there is a land sale between William Douglas to Joshua Wilson 150 acres 15 Nov 1852 Deed book U page 607-608. The 31 May 1851 John H. Burford sold to William Douglas 100 acres Deed book U page 163-164. On the 1830 Smith Co census there was George, David, Joseph and Susan Douglas. 1840 George and a M. Douglas. In the 1820 Smith Co census are the names Anderson, David, Edward. Elizabeth, George, Larkin and Hannah wife of John Douglas(from Will Book 1805-1809. If any of these names are your let me know and I will look for more information. My ancestors are from Smith Co also. ----- Original Message ----- From: "cory douglas" To: Sent: Thursday, June 23, 2005 11:22 AM Subject: [TNSMITH] Anderson Douglas > I am trying to find out any available information on Anderson Douglass who is on the 1820 census for Smith CO TN.
