1) Go the to the website of the Tennessee State Library and Archives _http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/_ (http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/) 2) click on History & Genealogy _http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/history/index.htm_ (http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/history/index.htm) 3) click on County Records (in the column on the left side of the page) _http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/history/county/index.htm_ (http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/history/county/index.htm) 4) click on Inventories of County Records _http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/history/county/index.htm_ (http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/history/county/index.htm) 5) click on Smith County _http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/preservation/countymicro/smit.pdf_ (http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/preservation/countymicro/smit.pdf) You will then be at a 19-page pdf. format of the register listing the microfilmed county records of Smith County. Microfilms of the records are also what you would be requested to use if visiting the courthouse, as well (rather than the originals). These microfilmed records represent all the records that have survived for Smith County (microfilmed only to about 1986), so far as I am aware.
