That was a good story and the N.C. Pope was Nathan Campbell POPE who was nephew to my ggrandmother ( he was descended from Calvin POPE/Silas POPE/Phillip POPE.) He recovered from his wounds and returned home to marry Frances Ann Denton on 21 Sept 1865 and lived until 1911. I visited his grave in the Pope Cemetery on Hwy 70 about 7 miles west of Carthage on Popes Hill. I have his birth year as 1845. Does anyone have his day of birth? Thanks for that story, and thanks to John Waggoner for his input. Jeanne Dark
