    3. Dear Bill & Martha, Oh my goodness, gracious...an old saying of my Tennessee relatives...listing is longer than Smith surname! I will list the names from the Index for you...there are 67 pages to refer to. If you need all them I could photocopy for cost of cc and mailing. Otherwise, please just pick out names you recognize. FYI I have done a lot of work on the Smith Co. Williams line...where do you fit? I will list WILLIAMS, followed by each first name shown with a Williams surname. WILLIAMS, Curtice (4 entries); Daniel; Edmund (6 entries); Herbert (2 entries); James (3 entries); John (5 entries); Joseph (3 entries) Joseph (2 entries); Mason (2 entries); Nathaniel (2 entries); Phillip (2 entries); Robert; Samuel; Sampson (6 entries)) ; Samson & John Boyd Williams (2 entries); Samuel; (3 entries); Theophalus (2 entries); Thomas (4 entries); Turner (3 entries); Willoughby (16 entries); and Zedick (2 entries) Melba -------Original Message------- From: Bill & Martha Barnes Date: 08/23/05 08:00:04 To: TNSMITH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNSMITH] Land Grant Look-Up I would greatly appreciate a lookup for any Williams land grants. 3. Thanks for the listing. I am glad to hear that you have done some Williams research in the area. My Williams line as I will outline below, A. W. (Anderson) Williams b. ca 1811 in Virginia was married to Sarah A. (some say her maiden name was Adams) ca 1836. Their oldest son, Thomas Arthur Williams was born in Mississippi about 1840 (where they were on the 1840 census). Samuel E. Williams was born ca 1841 (also in Miss.) They returned to Tennessee where the following children were born: Thaddeus E. Williams - b. abt. 1845 Robert Charles Williams - b. abt. 1846 By 1850, they were in Franklin Co., IL, where the following children were born: Sarah Jane Williams - b. abt. 1848 James R. Williams - b. abt 1850 Matilda Williams - b. abt. 1851 Mary Williams - b. abt. 1854 By 1860, they were in Dixon Springs, Smith County, TN where A.W. owned a mill. During the Civil War, the 2nd and 3rd oldest sons were killed or died by other means. In 1870 the family is still in Dixon Springs. John Williams is also listed b. abt. 1863 In 1880 the family had relocated to Weatherford, Parker County, TX. Sarah (A.W.'s wife) was there with her son, James R., and his wife and family, but A.W. is not. She is buried in Weatherford, but he is not. I assume that he died in Tennessee, but I can't prove it. Here is the thing. There were two A.W. Williams about the same age living in Smith County at the same time. There were two Anderson Williams at the same time, but I don't know that they were both A.W.'s. The othere A.W. Williams I believe was from North Carolina, whereas mine was from Virginia. Since my Anderson W. Williams named his oldest son Thomas Arthur, I have toyed with the idea that the older Thomas Williams (I think his middle initial was "A" - memory could be failing) who had a mill in Smith County earlier could have been his father. If there is anything that could help me in the Thomas land grants, I would appreciate the information. Thanks for your assistance, and if anything above rings a bell, please let me know.
