    1. Regarding James Upton (1750-1826) and family
    2. Does anyone know of one who researches in Smith Co TN? I am researching the James Upton line of Smith Co. James was born in 1750 in Ireland...and was listed on the 1820 census of Smith Co. His wife's first name was Nancy who was born in 1790 in NC. I only know of two of their children: ....Lucy Upton b. 1816 in TN m. James Gwaltney ....Edward Upton b. 1817 in TN m. Elizabeth __________ His son, William Cullen Upton is my husband's gr grandfather. James and Nancy Upton are buried in the Gwaltney Cemetery about 1/2 mile south of Hickman, Smith Co. on Reba Gwaltney's farm. (James 1750 to 1826 and Nancy (1790 to 1856) Thanks to John and Retta Waggoner there are photos of the cemetery and a list of those buried there!! Among the things I am interested in finding is: ....if James Upton and Nancy Upton left wills/probate files... ....if the land where James and Nancy Upton are buried had been at one time their land.... and if so when was it sold. Perhaps it had been passed down to their daughter Lucy Upton Gwaltney who is also buried there along with her husband James who died in 1839. Would appreciate knowing of someone who researches in the area and their fee. Thanks.... Joan Waldrop _mjowaldrop@aol.com_ (mailto:mjowaldrop@aol.com) .

    3. Joan, I found some information on James Upton's family in my Smith Co. TN Chancery Book by Partlow. I will type it up for you and send it to your e-mail as it is copyrighted material. But it does appear James left a will dated 8 Nov 1825. Then he died in 1825 or 1826, it says. If you contact the Historical & Genealogical Society, I'm pretty sure they can get you a copy of the will. Not sure what they charge for copies now but I don't think its very much. You can find their contact information here. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnsmith/hg/ Mary Knight Does anyone know of one who researches in Smith Co TN? I am researching the James Upton line of Smith Co.
