When I visited Carthage for the same reason a couple of years ago, I spent a lot of time in the research room at the Carthage Library. Should find a copy of the "Smith County History" book there. Also visited the Smith County Museum and attended the Smith County Historical Society meeting. John and Retta have done such a good job with the cemeteries that I was also able to find all of the family burial spots--even those that were isolated and unmarked. Stayed at a nearly hotel. Lots of choices. I'm sure Smith County residents can give you more specifics, though. I am wondering if anyone knows where the best place to get family history in Carthage might be. I am traveling to New England from Colorado and want to see and feel what my grandparents saw and felt when they live in Carthage. I am also planning on stopping in Macon County and do a little digging. I am hoping someone can help me with this dig. I also would like to know if anyone knows of a good place to spend a night or two. Many thanks for any and all help given.
