    1. Re: [TNSMITH] The McClellan Cemetery
    2. My deep appreciation to John and Retta Waggoner for photographing and making accessible the tombstones at the McClellan Cemetery (and to Charlie, the webhost). My great-great-grandmother, Amanda P. Williams is buried there. Her tombstone reads 1839, not 1835. An apprenticeship record for her in the Smith County Court Minutes of 1849 states Amanda Cathcart, age 9, was apprenticed to John Washer. On the 1850 census, John Washer and family (including, listed last, Amanda "Washer," age 11) were living some 17 households from the household of Andrew Williams. Amanda was married on 28 November 1856 to James H. Williams, a son of that Andrew. Gr-gr-grandmother Mandy Williams bought land on Bee Branch after her husband's death (James H. died in 1888), and descendants haven't been able to determine what drew her to that area. Her parents are as yet still unknown to those of us who seek that information--so far as I am aware at this point. Gale Williams Bamman, Certified Genealogist In a message dated 5/8/2008 8:01:37 P.M.
