    1. [TNSMITH] Piper Boys....Parentage...
    2. I would like to make a probable correction to this information?? David B Piper and Brice H Piper were born 1862 & 1864 respectively. Brice Sr and Mary Jane Shoulder married in 1860, so they are HER sons, not the sons of Celia. They are in the 1870 census listed under James Petterson. Sue Gregory I don't have direct kin to Mary Elvira, or Mrs. Ben Wilburn but thought someone might like to have some side information in case any of these are their lines. Mary Elvira's mother Mary Jane Shoulders was the 2nd wife of Brice Hammock Piper (my line). Smith Co. marriage records has Mary Jane Piper to James Patterson 1868. In the 1880 Smith Co. census are step sons of James Patterson: David B. & Brice H. Piper. These boys were the sons of Brice H. Piper and Celia A. Oldham. The husband of Mrs. Ben Wilburn (Flossie Kemp) was the son of Peter Wilburn & Elena (Eleanor) Burrus (my husband's line) Brice & Celia Piper's daughter Mary (Polly Ann m. Thomas Jefferson Smith (my line)s/o of Abel & Martha Dillahay Smith. Hope I haven't confused every one. Kemp is summoned by death Mrs. Mary Elvira Kemp, aged 75 years, died at her home in Prosperity section of the county, a few miles south of Red Boiling Springs. about noon Monday of last week. Death was attributed directly to a broken hip sustained in a fall ten weeks ago. However, she had been a semi-invalid since she suffered a paralytic stroke seven years ago. She is survived by her husband, Silas W. Kemp, a country merchant: three daughters, Mrs. Otis Wilmore of McMinville: Mrs. Ben Wilburn of Gallatin, and Mrs. Pervis West, who made her home with her parents, seven grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren: and one brother, Monroe Patterson, of Detroit, Mich. The remains were laid to rest on Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock following her death, in the Jenkins Cemetery, near the home, after funeral services conducted by Elder Leslie Ramsey and the editor (Elder Calvin Gregory). She was a good woman and had been a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church since girlhood. She was the daughter of James and Jane Shoulders Patterson and was born in the Pleasant Shade section.
