    1. [TNSMITH] Matilda Kemp -- Dickson Hickman

    3. I am trying to establish the link between Dickson/Dixon Hickman's wife Matilda Kemp and the Kemps of Wilson Co., TN, most likely, the family of Burrell Kemp (Jr.). Burrell Kemp and Elizabeth Jane Rowland had nine sons, all known, and up to six daughters, all unknown, per the pre-1850 "headcount" censuses. Can anyone out there in genealogy land definitively identify the daughters and provide any data, such as life/marriage dates, spouses, children ... ? And, should Matilda Kemp Hickman not be one of these women, perform the same sort of office for her? <>Dixon/Dickson D. Hickman, (~1812 - ?) [1880 USC/KTN], born in Wilson Co, TN, married 1) Matilda Kemp (? - 1842) as his first wife. Matilda is supposed to be the daughter of Burrell Kemp and his wife Elizabeth Rowlings who were married in 1813 in Wilson Co, TN and then moved to Smith Co, TN. Dickson Hickman is listed on the 1840 Smith Co., TN US census. Dickson later went to Dyer Co, TN and relocated to Johnson Co, TX in 1883 where he lived and died. ============================================================================= Burrell/Burwell Kemp Jr. (7 Apr. 1794 - 1883) [1840 USC] [1850 USC] [1860 USC] [1870 USC] [1880 USC] married Elizabeth Jane (Smith ?) Rowland/Roveling/Rawlings/Rowlings/Romling/Romeling (1795/1796 - ~1873) [1840 USC] [1850 USC] [1860 USC] [1870 USC] on 3 Nov. 1813 [WCTMR] in Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee. By 1814 they were living in Old Kemp Hollow #1, on Peyton's creek, near Monoville, Smith Co., TN, on a land grant from NC in Indian Territory. Burrell was a farmer, both Burrell and Elizabeth were able to read, though their ability to write is unclear. (Richardson, Sarah (Sally), Kissiah, Elizabeth and Rebecca Rowland were siblings, possibly children of Sarah Rowland.) They had nine sons (possibly a tenth died in childhood) and up to six daughters, but the daughters are presently unknown. After Elizabeth's demise in the early 1870s, Burrell Jr. married Jane (Kennedy?) Russell (~1828 - ?) [1880 USC] on 27 Sep. 1874 [SCTMR]; there were no issue from this union. Jane Russell is likely Jane Kennedy, daughter of Stephen Kennedy and widow Edward Russell. Thank you all for your consideration, Gary Pace
