Smith fork creek was called the collins river early on.... probably changed when joseph collins named started to be used on the river in warren county. I am not aware of an earlier name for mulherrin`s creek. Denny's branch was originally elk fork of the mulherrin. In very very early stuff the caney fork was refered to as thompsons river or thompsons fork....from the name of the early british explorer who canoed down the cumberland in the early 1760s.
