My ancestor, Alexander Hamilton McCandless McWhirter, lived on a bluff at the mouth of Sink Creek on the Caney Fork River, when he died between 1850 & 1860. I have not been able to find a burial site and have checked the Corps of Engineers books on the people they exhumed and re-buried in other cemeteries when the dam was built. I'm not sure which county this area was in at that time, and realize many burials of the time went unmarked, but just wanted to know if anyone had any idea where someone in that area might have been buried. He and his wife, Elizabeth Robinson McWhirter, belonged to the Caney Fork Primitive Baptist Church but the Caney Fork PB Church Cemetery is just out of McMinnville a very few miles and I'm not sure that was the same church area. There are many graves in that cemetery marked only with field stones, and probably some don't even have that. Any information on where an older Caney Fork Primitive Baptist Church might have been would also be appreciated. Even if there was a short route from where they lived to the present Caney Fork PB Cemetery, it would have been a long way to ride on a Sunday AM. Glenda McWhirter Todd
