Bob, I found a record on WorldConnect for an Eleanor Collie, born about 1794 in Virginia, who married Frederick Uhles in 1813 in Smith Co., TN.  If this is the correct Eleanor, then your William must have come to TN from Virginia.   There is a book entitled "The Collie Family of Pittsylvania County, VA", Revised Edition, Updated 2003 by Betty Cox Collie and Robert King.  It might be worth your while to see if you can find a copy in Google Books or at some genealogy department of a library.   Sandra

Dear Sandra, Yes, you found the correct family. It maybe they changed the spelling to Coley later. I'll see if I can find that book and borrow it on interlibrary loan.
