    1. Re: [TNSMITH] Creeks in Smith County on Caney Fork
    2. Sir, Collins River is in Warren County and is a tributary of the Caney Fork. The Caney Fork flows into the Cunberland. Doug I have fished in a lot of those creeks, e.g. Jones Creek, Indian Creek, Eagle Creek, Mine Lick Creek, etc. I remember during times of low water you could see the foundation of old homes and sometimes a rock wall. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack Masters" <aujm2@comcast.net> To: <TNSMITH@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 04, 2010 10:52 AM Subject: [TNSMITH] Creeks in Smith County on Caney Fork > Good Day everyone > > We are working on Volume II of Cumberland Pioneers (( > www.cumberlandpioneers.com )) and seeing some potential grant placements > challenges. > > We have discovered that Smith fork, for example was called Southwest > Fork, McNeelys Creek and many early pioneer surveyors called this creek > "Collins River" > > Hickman Creek was called Beaver creek in 1785 when Surveyor William > Dobbins came in and surveyed three large tracts. > > My dilemma now is that for Mulherrin Creek I cannot find any early > pioneers names. 3. I have been looking in the "Macon Roots" (2008)  and there are a lot of Shrum's listed. I found a Newton Isaac Shrum but the dates don't jive. There is listed a Isaac Shrum born in 1859, so the dates don't lineup with your dates. A thought is that I have is Isaac's father was a John Allen Shrum born  in 1830 in NC. One of Isaac's brohter was Benjamin born in 1866 and a Henry born in 1864. I wonder if they had a child and named him after their brother. Benjamin married a Mary Hargis. Now there a lot of Hargis families in the latest "Macon Roots" I am following the Nichols family line which follows the Parker family from VA and the Shrum family is listed under the Parker's in the Macon Roots. tu, dr.bill nichols ----- Original Message ----- From: FmlyTracer@aol.com To: tnjackso@rootsweb.com, TNMACON@rootsweb.com, TNSMITH@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, June 28, 2010 7:04:23 AM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: [TNSMITH] Isaac Newton Shrum 1881-1928 Isaac Newton Shrum is given in the Alexander Funeral Home records, wife   Hattie, father Charles, mother Hargis.   The only other information I can find on this person is the 1920 census   with wife Hattie and WWI Draft registration.   Does anyone know the parents of  Isaac Shrum?   Many thanks Sharon Tabor   ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TNSMITH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

In the 1880 census, I think Charlie was listed as Jacob and his wife was Liza, who was evidently Elizabeth Jane Hargis. According to the 1900 census, Charlie and Jennie have been married for 18 years, so Elizabeth Jane must had died about 1881 or so. She may have died in childbirth and perhaps Isaac was her only child. I have numerous Hargises, but no Elizabeth Jane. Maybe someone will come up with her parents' names. I do not subscribe to Ancestry - I get my census info through HeritageQuest.  Let me copy the census records I quoted and send to you off-list, OK?   It appears from what I see online that Charlie and Isaac (the elder) were brothers, and the sons of John Allen Shrum and Mary Susannah Leath.  Perhaps your Isaac was named after his uncle.  Even if a man went by "Jr.", it didn't always mean his father was the "Sr." - it could be an uncle, grandfather, etc.  And the early spelling (pretty far back) of Shrum seems to have been Shramm or Shraam.   Sandra --- On Mon, 6/28/10, FmlyTracer@aol.com <FmlyTracer@aol.com> wrote: From: FmlyTracer@aol.com <FmlyTracer@aol.com> Subject: Re: [TNSMITH] Isaac Newton Shrum 1881-1928 To: tnsmith@rootsweb.com Date: Monday, June 28, 2010, 2:56 PM Sandra, I hate to appear so dense and obtuse, but for the life of me I can't get  any results on Ancestry.com's census records of Charles, Charlie, C.J.,  or Jacob Shrum.  Maybe they have Shrum as something different that doesn't come to light in  a soundex search? 3. Bob, If you discover your Collie family in Pittsylvania Co., VA, and then find yourself stuck going further back in time, I would suggest that you might take a look at Edward Colley and wife Mary [Strong] Colley. They resided in Mecklenburg Co., VA, married in 1751, and had 20 children. James R. Rolff has written two books on his Strong family, and goes into detail on the Colleys. Mary [Strong] Colley's Strong brothers filtered down to to what became Pittsylvania / Henry Counties, VA and it's possible that some of the Colley children followed their uncles. As I said, James R. Rolff has written two Strong books, but the recently revised edition is what you would want if you are able to pinpoint your Collie ancestor in or around Pittsylvania Co.: "Strong Family of Virginia & Other Southern States" by James Robert Rolff - privately published 2007 If you're interested in purchasing the book, contact me & I'll put you in touch with the author.
