    3. Gary, My best guess is that this is Emily Kemp b. 1855-1856 wife of Wade H. Sircy. ? I don't have any parents listed for her but she does fit the age of Emily Kemp b. ca 1852 daughter of Jesse Benton Kemp and Mary Deal. Could this record be a bad transcription of the death record? Maybe someone on the list can identify the Parents of Emily Kemp wife of Wade H. Sircy? Mary K. The following is a Jackson Co., TN, death record for Emla Sircy with approximate life dates 1855 - 1930. Name: EMLA SIRCY Certificate: #8611 Age: abt 75y Birth Place: TN Death: 20 Mar 1930 Father: Jenil B. Kemp Mother: Pollie Dowell Birth Place: Gainesboro Cemetery: Sircy Cemetery I do not recognize the father's name. Is this Jenil Kemp, likely born 1820 - 1835, one of the Smith Co., Kemps? Thanks, all, Gary

    2. Gwendolyn Melton
    3. Thanks to all who made my trip to Gordonsville a success. I want to especially thank John & Retta for showing me the best in Southern Hospitality! My mother & I loved every second we spent in Smith Co. I got some great pictures of family gravestones and filled in some data in my family files. It was a kick listening to my mother talk of when she visited as an 8 year old--the sights around the area brought back lots of memories that I will be able to include in my family history. If you haven't had a chance to go to the Museum operated by the Smith County Historical Society, put it on the top of your list. It is a truly enjoyable experience. Sincerely, Gwendolyn Melton, CA researching CRAWFORD & STEWART lines

    3. Evans and Nelson Reunion Family and friends are all invited to attend the annual Nelson Reunion for the descendants of Jave and Ellen Evans Nelson on August 6, 2005, at the Farmers Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall in the Blockhouse Valley area of Anderson County, TN, beginning at 11:00 A. M. Bring food for a covered dish lunch at noon. There will be fun and games for the kids after lunch and music to be enjoyed by the adults. There will be the usual displays of family histories, pictures and other memorabilia, so bring anything you want to display. Jave and Ellen were married in Anderson County in 1877. They lived on Black Oak Ridge where the water tanks in Oak Ridge now set. Their children included David, Henry, Catherine Nelson Tadlock, Frank, Tom, Cynthia Nelson Wilson, Page, Taylor, Sam, and Clara Nelson Yerkes. Ellen was the daughter of Thomas J. and Permelia York Evans who moved to Tennessee from Knox County, Kentucky in the 1870's. Jave is thought to have been a direct descendant of Joseph Anderson for whom Anderson County is named. For more information, contact Carolyn Nelson Johnson at <mamawcarolyn@peoplepc.com>.

    2. If you are addressing me, I am using FTM Ver. 2005 but Ver. 9 should also have a way to indicate other relationships. I don't remember how it was set up. You might try Help and use the keyword "Relationship" and see if it gives you any information

    1. Re: [TNSMITH] Family Tree Maker help
    2. Which version of FTM are you using? My uncle has an adopted grandchild. In the facts and notes I have her as "adopted". We want her included in the information because she is part of the family. None of us consider her to be any less than the biological children/grandchildren. She still appears in the descendant report as a child of her parents - but the word 'adopted' doesn't appear. I am still using FTM 9.0 Sharon

    1. Re: [TNSMITH] Family Tree Maker help
    2. You can make changes of this nature by doing the following. 1)Place your cursor on the name of the child that you are considering. Make sure the line is blinking next to the child's name. Or you can highlight that child's name. 2) While the name is selected click on "People" above. 3) Scroll down to "Other Parents" and click on that. 4) A window will open and you can go down to "Relationship to Father" and "Relationship to Mother" You have seven options to designate these relationships. I suppose in your case, you would want to select "Natural". This is also critical when you go to making reports or trees. If the relationship is other than natural (and maybe Family Member), that person and all their descendants will be omitted from the reports or trees. Hope this helps. Ed

    3. Jenny I don't know anyway to take out the adopted, other than just leave it out. You could add a note to the adopted child saying something like being adopted was a special thing, because they were chosen especially to be a family member.
