Dear Mary....am ready for as much as you want to send. I made a note on some questions but think I need more before I ask. However, Re Leonard Jones who married Nancy Jenkins. I have two dates for marriage - 21 Oct 1786 and 1796. (He died after May 1813). Since their son Leonard (Len) Jones was born 28 Oct 1804 in Smith Co. I believe the 1786 date would be more correct. But if Leonard md Nancy in 1786 he still would have been only 18, which generally the men did not marry that young. Can someone verify this as both dates seem questionable? This Len Jones (the son of L. & Nancy) married Elizabeth (Betsy) Green, a daughter of Isaac Green and his wife _______Hendrix. (I would really like to correspond with someone re this connection of mine.) Leonard (Len) Jones b 28 oct 1804 in Smith Co.; d 6 Oct 1882 in Monroe, Ky. and is buried in the Gamaliel Cem. in Gamaliel, Monroe Co., Ky. Elizabeth (Betsy) Green was born 5 Nov 1808 in Smith Co., and d 14 Nov 1877 in Monroe, Ky.; also buried in Gamaliel Cem.' Len & Betsy had 7 known children-1) William b abt 1830 (prob Jackson Co.) d aft 1858; md Eliza A. Kelly sometime prior to 1846; 2) Harvey Jones b 14 Feb 1832 (Jackson) d 8 Jan 1898 in Monroe, Ky.; buried Gamaliel Cem. 3) Nancy Jones b abt 1836 prob jackson Co. d bef 1850 ? (Nancy is not listed on the 1850 Jackson Co. Census with her family and would probably have not been married this young age) 4) son, Beverley Jones b abt 1840; 5) Rufus Jones b abt 1844 d 1868; married Emily C. Harlin abt 1869; 6) Mary J. Jones b abt 1848; d sometime after 1875 md John E. Dotson on 8 Mar 1866 in Jackson Co. Tn; and 7) Sarah A. Jones b abt 1856 probably in Ky; md Lon Sims. The death certificate of Elizabeth (Betsy) Green Jones is the first vital record proving her mother's maiden name was Hendrix. In Cal's col. he had written Hendricks or Hendrix. Still searching for her given name, parentage, anything on this Hendrix line. 1850 Jackson Co. Census #4 Leonard Jones 46 Elizabeth 40 William 20 Harvey 17 Beverly 10 Rufus 6 Mary J. 2 (Caution-there is a different Leonard Jones 37 and his wife also an Elizabeth 27 on the 1860 Smith. These are not the same people.) Re Nancy Jenkins-one states her father was William and another states her father is John Jenkins. Any confirmation on the correct one? Gary has his name listed as Rawlston "Dutch" Jenkins but I don't agree with the Rawlston part! :-) Dutch is son of Samuel Jenkins Sr. and Sabra Goad. Per Cal's Column August 30, 1956 Dutch Jenkins, believed to have married a Hesson; Dutch Jenkins was the father of: George, Bill and Lee Jenkins, all born in Georgia; Mary Jenkins and one other child, name not known. Thats just about all he says about Dutch Jenkins son of Samuel Jenkins Sr. Lee Jenkins & Rebecca Boston's daughter Mary Elizabeth Jenkins married John M. "Morgan" Gregory. I don't have a John Grey married to any Jenkins? I doubt you want to call me Melba, I live in Illinois. :-) I will send you some Jenkins reports to your e-mail. Mary K. Please excuse me, but I think I am LOST in this Jenkins mire. Is the paragraph Lee (Leroy) Jenkins state that Lee is the spouse of Rebecca and NOT the wife of Rawlston Dutch Jenkins? Did not someone give this info out that Lee was the spouse of Rebecca Boston? AND are the children listed below those of ?????? I came across an obituary this morning that I thought might be helpful to some of the Gregory lineage since this individual was born in Kentucky. This appeared in The Arizona Republic (Phoenix, Az) on 3 January 2000. WILLIAM H. GREGORY, 86, of Gilbert (Arizona), a retired tool and die maker, died Dec. 27, 1999. He was born in Pulaski, Kentucky, and was a World War II Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Betty Lee; daughters, Joyce, Fay Painter, Mary Elaine Moore; son, William Lee; parents Mary Ellen and John Henry; 8 grandchildren. Services have been held. Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary. Note: Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery/Mortuary is in Phoenix, Arizona. This is copied exactly as written. (William H. Gregory died at age 86 yet obit states both parents are suvivors. I would question this.) Melba of Arizona

I don't know languages but maybe its a Latin phrase. A lot of medical terms are based on Latin. Linda btw, here's a strange cause of death, in Nashville my great grandmother's cause of death was eating pineapple ----- Original Message ----- From: "B & B West" <geefer@sti.net> To: <TNSMITH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 25, 2005 3:49 PM Subject: [TNSMITH] "olena como" > From: Frlva@aol.com > oleandar poisoning? > > > That was/is my guess but when I get a copy of the death certificate I'll > check for a typo in the > funeral home records. > Do oleanders grow in the Smith, Macon, Trousdale Co. areas of TN? > > Bobby L. > > > ==== TNSMITH Mailing List ==== > Volunteer To Transcribe For The Smith Co Census Project. > Already In Progress! > http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnsmith/tngen/census.htm > > >
Even though this is "off topic", poisoning from oleanders is not limited to chewing the leaf. (One leaf is sufficient to kill a child.) However, *all* parts (leaf, stem & flowers) are poisonous if ingested. Cases have been reported from inhaling fumes from burning. Skewering & cooking meat on an oleander stem is poisonous. Even ingesting honey made by bees visiting the flowers have produced toxic effects.
I would say this is probably a 'misspelling or misinterpretation of the writing. It may be some kind of COMA. Do you have the death certificate to look at? No, oleanders do not grow in Tenn (and if they could, you would eventually hate them. They develop deep roots and are hard to remove. Several years ago a miniature one was developed, which is supposed to be safe. The poisoning comes in chewing the leaves of the plant.) In Arizona these plants are used along freeways and in rock/granite areas with no grass. They grow easily, have beautiful blooms (but stinky) and do well in extreme heat and no rain. Thanks for you input. I don't have the actual death certificate. . . .yet. All I now have is someone's interpretation of the funeral home record. Bobby L.
