Here is the very little I have on William & Susan. As you can see, these families kept with the tradition of the time & area and are very circular -they keep marrying & intermarrying cousins. Even name children the same so that it is often hard getting the right child with the correct parents. Fletcher BARNETT b. 1800-1810 SC (probably the Greenville area, but that is pure speculation) Fletcher was a young child when his parents - William & Kiziah WALKER BARNETT moved to Smith Co, TN. His grandfather, David BARNETT owned land in Greenville, SC which he purchased in 1800 so that is why I speculate that he was born in the Greenville area - but he might not have been, either) Fletcher married Mary "Polly" GILL. They are listed in the 1830 census for Smith Co, with 3 males under the age of 10. Mary "Polly" GILL was the daughter of John & Elizabeth "Betsy" TUGGLE GILL (Barnett's of Smith Co., TN by Albert BARNETT) One of the 3 males from the 1830 census is never named. The assumption being that he died before the 1840 census Sometime between 1830 & 1840 Fletcher disappeared. There werre a couple of nephews that had his name as a middle name but it disappeared from the family after he did and the nephews only used the initial "F" after Fletcher disappeared. Fletcher BARNETT - Mary "Polly" GILL male BARNETT b 1820-1830 TN William T. BARNETT b. @1829 TN m. 24 Oct 1850 TN - Susan A. KENT (b. @1830 TN f. Nathan KENT m. Martha GILL) Mary BARNETT George BARNETT b. 1854 m. Betty PRUITT James BARNETT Martha BARNETT m. Will BIRDWELL Jackson BARNETT James C. BARNETT b. 30 Sep 1830 TN m. 11 Nov 1850 Lucinda KILZER (b. 19 Dec 1830 d. 22 Jul 1907 Smith Co, TN f. Jordan KILZER m. Rachel) Harriet A. BARNETT 1851-1876 Mary E. BARNETT 1853-1904 Jordan F. BARNETT 1855- It is interesting that 2 of Fletcher's brothers married sisters of Mary "Polly" GILL.

HARVEY ALLEN5 HESSON (JAMES LEIGHTON4, JOHN NELSON3, ANDREW2, ARTHUR1) was born December 11, 1869 in Smith County, Tennessee, and died October 29, 1956 in Smith County, Tennessee. He married MARY ETTA JONES December 03, 1893 in Smith County, Tennessee. She was born August 23, 1876 in Jackson County, Tennessee, and died August 19, 1940 in Smith County, Tennessee. Both buried at Sanderson Cemetery, Smith Co. TN Children of HARVEY HESSON and MARY JONES are: i. MARY ANNIE6 HESSON, b. January 23, 1897, Smith County, Tennessee; d. July 21, 1937, Smith County, Tennessee; m. WILLIAM "WILLIE" PICKERING BOSTON, Bef. 1920; b. August 04, 1894, Smith County, Tennessee; d. September 16, 1953, Smith County, Tennessee. ii. LESSIE HESSON, b. April 1895, Smith County, Tennessee. iii. BESSIE HESSON, b. April 1895, Smith County, Tennessee.
What is the question being asked here? I have quite a bit of Hesson info and will gladly share what I have. Melba - Thanks so much for your info on the POPE line. Those names do not seem to fit into my family. My Phillip POPE was b. 16 Oct 1762 NC m. Elizabeth Hale b.1762 NC on 22 Jan 1786. Phillip died in Smith Co. 13 May 1849. He was son of Jesse POPE and Elizabeth_____. He did have a son John POPE b. 1806/07...I have no more info on this John. It is possible he married young to Polly Palmer and became father to Phillip POPE b. 1822. I really appreciate your response. I noticed you have WILLIAMS connection in Smith Co. I need parents of Thomas H. WILLIAMS b. 1810 TN (probably Smith Co). He married Pitsy (Patsy) POPE dau of Silas Pope /Phillip Pope. Any info on him in your data? Thanks Jeanne
Thanks for the hints. Google didn't pay off a lot.....seems that everybody has equivalent information that I have....plus the Evetts family produced quite a few authors and rock stars! Part of our tracing problem is that Evetts has been spelled Avitts, Avetts, Evett, Avett, Avitt, Abbitts, Abbetts, Ebbetts, Ebbitts, Evits, and Avits...sometimes all in the same family. > > > ==== TNSMITH Mailing List ==== > Have you updated your Smith County Query lately? > http://www.tngennet.org/queries/qpost.htm > > > > ==== TNSMITH Mailing List ==== > Volunteer To Transcribe For The Smith Co Census Project... > Already in Progress! > http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnsmith/tngen/census.htm > >
In April 2000, I completed my compilation (in three four inch binders) of my Carthage Courier Obituaries. A set of these is in the Carthage Library. Each of the three volumes is Indexed. Book I is years 1976-1992; Book II is years 1993 - 1996; and Book III is for years 1997 - 1999. I have compiled the years from 2000 to present but have not gotten all into my index. (My computer crashed and with our move into our new home my work slowed down.) I will continue this project and when the next set is ready I will let you know. John Waggoner viewed these and was surprised/happy at how quickly he located names. I soon will be sending corrections re my address listed in those books, yet my phone remains the same. My request is simply this: If you are in Carthage, reviewing these and you note where I have a ( ) for a female's maiden name, would you please send it to me.if you have knowledge of it. As I have searched the Smith Co. areas for a long time and have many relatives still there, I was able from this source and through the obituary able to list this information on a lot of females. I also included nicknames where known and first/second marriages. When I decided to copy/cut/paste the obits I had no intention of using them for anyone but my own purposes, when it was completed I felt this was too good a genealogical tool not to share it. What is it? The photocopy of the exact obit (I have all the originals) as it appeared in the Carthage Courier, date and volume of the issue at the heading. I made up my own Index listing...and can say I am proud of how it came out! There are a few years included of obits of the 1970's that I do not have complete obits as my practice used to be to cut out only what I knew of family and discard the rest. If, when viewing these records, you find you have some of my missing ones, if you would send me a copy I can add this to the original and the one in Carthage. My hat goes off to the editor of the Carthage Courier (presently Eddie West) No other newspaper gives the information about a deceased individual such as this one. Never change the format!!! So, if you visit Carthage, view my work. Someday, perhaps I can get the Index online. Melba Greene Wilkins
Re the email I just sent re the use of the Salt Lake family history site....You can also google - LDS.org, click the first paragraph, scroll down, left side, to Family History, then click on Search at top OR google in Family Search.org OR go into it from the State Archive as I sent you. I forgot to mention that the above site also has the information there from the 1880 Census if they were included. Re Eden Donnell search...you will find several listings on the above site, one being Eden Burr Donnell (in N.C., Rutherford, and Wilson). Scrutinize these listings as some are for birth, a different one for marriage and or death. I just look for the state I am interested in first and then "follow through". Put this information (as well as census records, etc.) into whatever note fields you may be using, listing the source, so you will know where it came from. I made myself a general rules years ago...When I find the same information about an individual three times and two of those three match, I use that information, but ALWAYS list the remainder in my notes. Again, hope this is helpful. If so, then my time spent in your behalf is worthwhile also. Melba PS Again I will be happy to "phone walk" you through this site to help you get the most from it. One lady was so thrilled we did this...she found an ancestor she has been looking for for ten years. I am a best friend now and we regularly "email chat".
