    2. The images on the DVD's are of a higher resolution (quality) than the ones on the website. This makes the images clearer and easier to view. This is especially helpful if you are wanting to print the records or for those that are hard to read. If you visit the website for the SK Publications, they show examples of the images. Hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Hopson" <lizy@airmail.net> To: <TNSMITH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 05, 2005 6:30 PM Subject: Re: [TNSMITH] census cd vs. dvd > Just realized that you were talking about CD or DVD.... 3. I have been reading and re-reading your message for quite a while. I am trying to piece together information to prove that William B. Allman, I think the son of Tempa Allman, who married Frances McDonald 16 June 1850, is the father of the first wife of William Joseph Stewart. I have a marriage record of W.J. and Maggie Allman, and I find them on the 1880 census with mother-in-law Fanny. What I need is some evidence of Maggie's life, especially her death. I believe her to be my g-g-grandmother. I found the grave of William Joseph Stewart in the Gordonsville Cemetery, Smith Co. TN. He is buried next to his 2nd wife Maggie A. Justice Lancaster. I found Tempa Allman on the 1850 Smith Co. Census living with children and a 75 year old woman named Olivia. Do we have any common connection? 2. I haven't seen the Smith Co DVD set but I have purchased the DVD set for Walton Co, GA and they are wonderful. I think the biggest difference between CD's and DVD's is the amount of storage space. The DVD will hold more information, they are by far the best deal for the money. If your computer has a CD and a DVD drive, both will work on your computer. Randy Rowe ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jenny M. 3. Just curious, but why purchase the census when the 1820-1870 plus slave schedule census are on the Smith County TnGenWeb site for free? The 1880 is available on Ancestry.com for free... That leaves only the 1900 and 1910 to buy. unless you can find them somewhere on the web for free? I looked at the CD website but could not see the difference unless it is just cheaper to do on the one CD than on the separate ones. Hopefully someone else has better info than me. lh ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jenny M. Accordingly, I would like to poll the group for their experience with some of these titles. I am primarily an "armchair" genealogist, working off internet sources, such as tnsmith, tnwilson, Email, list servers and general googling. 3. I'm not sure if you will get this since I have never replied to anyone before. I really do not know much about my husband's family. I know his grandfather's name was Robert Hopson ... married to Mina Hopson and they were in Wolf City, TX on the 1910 Census. The children were Ray, Delbert, Edna Earl, Daryl, Ruby, Jimmy Fay, and Benjamin Troy ... not in that order. I have been searching ARK for my Gilliam line and have seen Hopson mentioned. 3. I notice your Hopson name - your husbands? I have a Hopson line. Benjamin Hopson born ca 1785 VA, the family stayed in Va until about 1828, then to Tennessee in 1832. After 1840 but before 1850 census they arrived in Arkansas. 1850 census Van Buren Co Arkansas. Their son John Hopson born ca 1834 TN, died 1865-67....he married Nov 1865 Van Buren Co AR to widow Martha Hawkins Simpkins....had daughter Josephine Hopson born ca 1866 VBC AR.....she married Buel Mullins and they are my great-grandparents. Does this sound anything like your Hopson family? Could yours have moved to Texas from Arkansas or Tennessee? I have not been able to find out how John Hopson died, it would have been after the war which was over in 1865......but I suspect he probably served in the war. 3. Would someone familiar with Smith County please help me on the location in a land grant? The location starts with "on the head water of the dry fork of the east fork of Goove Creek on the ridge and bounded as follows". I think this was filed in 1825 in Murfreesboro. Why there? Was Smith County not set up for legal filings? Thank you, Joe Parker

    3. I notice one of your lines is Allen......did you notice the messages about Peter Turney signing over his 640 acre Rev War land grant to a Mary Allen of Davidson County in 1784 - land on Harpeth River.....etc. So I have to ask you about the Allen family, if there is a possible connection to the Turneys. I did find an Allen was in charge of the foot soldiers Oct 1780 Battle of King's Mountain, etc. Again, Peter Turney settled near Dixon Springs, SMith Co.....but was earlier in eastern TN as a surveyor.
