    2. Re Frances / Fanny Kemp Hi Mary, I don't personally have any documents stating that the maiden name of Frances / Fanny Carter was Kemp, but according to other relatives, Frances Kemp is the name listed on the death certificate of her youngest son, Houston Carter, who was born in about 1847 in Warren County, KY. I am hoping to receive a copy of the Houston's death certificate within the next few days. Also, with the exception of the initials JF that were engraved on the grave marker of one of her sons, as far as I know, the only way her name is ever listed is Frances or Fanny. Thanks for your help ~ Judy

    3. Definition: A public domain work is a creative work that is not protected by copyright and which may be freely used by everyone. The reasons that the work is not protected include: (1) the term of copyright for the work has expired; (2) the author failed to satisfy statutory formalities to perfect the copyright or (3) the work is a work of the U.S. Government. 3. Patti, I am a zealot when it comes to protection of creative works. This passion bores right down to protecting what you create for your own county website, and to the state and federal projects as well. Although my research is not infallible, I looked into the Goodspeeds works ten years ago and found no legal bars to displaying those works. Nevertheless, I still credit everything donated to my websites, whether under copyright or not. One file that helps me to do that is a permissive file folder. If anyone ever challenges anything I post, I can provide the name of the person who gave the works to me. It just makes good sense to credit and protect our submitters, thus encourage broader base of submissions to enable massive growth of our local, and state, projects. With all that, I still abhor those who sell for profit the works of others. Thanks for asking. This is IMHO.
